Fairmont Speech wins Eagle Invitational

FAIRMONT — On Saturday, March 5, the Fairmont Speech team competed at the Maple River “Eagle” Invitational in Mapleton with 36 members of the speech team. In the team sweepstakes, Fairmont takes 1st place with 158 points. Minnesota Valley Lutheran takes 2nd place with 79 points, and Maple River takes 3rd place with 61 points.

In the varsity division, Junior Lauren Wheeler takes 3rd in creative; Senior Vanessa Schultze takes 6th in creative; Junior Solveig Senf is the champion in discussion; Senior Craig Gates takes 6th in discussion; Senior Kara Fischer and Sophomore Selvin Forsythe take 3rd in duo; Senior Kara Fischer takes 4th in drama; Sophomore Selvin Forsythe takes 6th in drama;

Freshman Oliver Thedens takes 5th in extemp reading; Freshman Dominick Lund-May takes 2nd in extemp speaking; Senior Eleanor Hamlet takes 2nd in great speeches; Freshman Dominick Lund-May takes 3rd in great speeches; Sophomore Isaiah Lockwood takes 4th in great speeches; Senior Eleanor Hamlet takes 3rd in humorous;

Sophomore Sydney Blomster takes 3rd in informative; Junior Lilly Laven takes 4th in informative; 8th grader Ella Krahmer takes 5th in informative; Senior Kaycie Brookens takes 2nd in oratory; Freshman Alayna Haefner takes 5th in oratory; Senior Kaycie Brookens is the champion in prose; Senior Vanessa Schultze takes 4th in prose; Freshman Grace Simpson is the champion in storytelling; 8th grader Megan Wheeler takes 4th in storytelling.

In the novice division, 8th grader Sanjna Venigalla takes 5th in drama; 7th grader Clark Hazard takes 6th in discussion; 8th grader Bel Lutterman is the champion in extemp reading; 8th grader Cheyenne Abel takes 2nd in informative. The Fairmont Speech team is coached by Kathleen Walker, Erik Walker, and Miles Duffey.
