Fairmont Speech places 2nd at ‘Fiesta’

FAIRMONT — On Saturday, Feb. 26, the Fairmont Speech team competed at the Mankato East “Fiesta” in Mankato hosted by Mankato East with 31 members of the speech team.

In the varsity division, Junior Solveig Senf was the champion in discussion, Senior Kara Fischer was the champion in dramatic interpretation, Sophomore Selvin Forsythe was 6th in dramatic interpretation, Senior Kara Fischer and sophomore Selvin Forsythe were 5th in duo interpretation, Dominick Lund-May was 2nd in extemporaneous speaking and 6th in great speeches, Freshman Grace Simpson was 2nd in impromptu and 4th in storytelling, Senior Kaycie Brookens was 3rd in original oratory and 3rd in prose, and Senior Vanessa Schultze was 7th in prose.

In the novice division, Senior Craig Gates was 4th in discussion, 7th grader Clark Hazard was 6th in discussion, 8th grader Bel Lutterman was 2nd in extemporaneous reading, 8th grader Cheyenne Abel was 3rd in informative, Freshman Alayna Haefner was 3rd in original oratory, and 7th grader Norah Heille was 4th in prose.

In team sweepstakes, Jordan was 1st place with 107 points, Fairmont was 2nd place with 74 points, and Mankato West was 3rd place with 69 points.

The Fairmont Speech team heads to Mapleton on Saturday, March 5, for the Maple River “Eagle Invitational” Speech Tournament. The Fairmont Speech team is coached by Kathleen Walker and Erik Walker.
