Local Breast Milk Depot continues to flourish

FAIRMONT — The MN Milk Bank dispatched a special courier from Minneapolis to Fairmont to pick up breastmilk at the South-Central Milk Depot located at the Human Services – Public Health building in Fairmont. The special courier was dispatched to Fairmont because the local storage was overflowing with donated breastmilk.

Donating breastmilk is a growing trend among mothers who have extra breastmilk. And by donating breastmilk to the Fairmont Milk Depot, mothers can help those families and infants who are in need.

The donated breastmilk goes back to Robbinsdale, Minn., where the MN Milk Bank is located. There it will be pasteurized and shared with hospitals throughout Minnesota to provide the best nutrition to premature and term babies.

Two recent donors, Ashley Wrucke-Schwarzrock with her son Axel, and Rebecca Sokoloski with her daughter Haddie, know first-hand the benefits of human milk and were excited to be part of this life-giving program. The recent shipment required the courier to transport over 25 gallons back to the Twin Cities for processing.

If you would like to know more about donating breastmilk to the MN Milk Bank, contact Patti Kasper RN, PHN at Public Health (507) 238-4757.
