Speech team competes at Crusader Classic
FAIRMONT — On Saturday, Feb. 12, the Fairmont Speech Team competed at the “Crusader Classic” Speech Tournament in Mankato hosted by Mankato Loyola with 30 members of the speech team.
In the varsity division, Senior Kaycie Brookens was 2nd in prose reading, Junior Lauren Wheeler was 2nd in creative expression, Junior Solveig Senf was the Champion in discussion, and freshman Grace Simpson was 6th in storytelling.
In the novice division, Senior Craig Gates was 3rd in discussion, Freshman Zoey Tasseff was the Champion in poetry reading, Freshman Dominick Lund-May was 2nd in great speeches, 8th Grader Madi Peyman was 3rd in informative speaking, 8th Grader Cheyenne Abel was 4th in informative speaking, 8th Grader Levi Loughmiller was 4th in extemporaneous speaking, and 7th Grader Norah Heille was 6th in prose reading
In team sweepstakes, Fairmont tied for 4th place with Maple River with 34 points. Mankato East was 3rd place with 64 points, Mounds Park Academy was 2nd place with 116 points, and Marshall was 1st place with 128 points. The Fairmont Speech Team heads to Mankato West on Saturday, Feb. 19. Speech is open to anyone to join at any time during the season.
