Cardinal Speech returns to in-person competition
FAIRMONT — Fairmont Speech is back for in-person competition for the first time since February 2020. Last year, the Fairmont Speech Team completed their 2021 season completely virtually in live and asynchronous platforms on Zoom.
on Saturday, Feb. 5, the team competed at the Cannon Falls Speech Invitational with 20 members of the speech team. In the varsity division, Senior Kaycie Brookens was the champion of Prose, senior Eleanor Hamlet was the champion of Great Speeches, 8th grader Ella Krahmer was 2nd place in Informative Speaking, sophomore Sydney Blomster was 4th place in Informative Speaking, and Solveig Senf was 5th place in Discussion. In the novice division, Senior Craig Gates was 5th place Extemporaneous Speaking, Madi Peyman was 6th place in Informative Speaking, and Norah Heille was 6th place in Prose.
The Fairmont Team received 3rd place with 22 points behind Chatfield in 2nd place with 32 points and Rochester John Marshall winning 1st place with 43 points. The Fairmont Speech Team heads to Mankato Loyola on Saturday, Feb. 12. This year, the Fairmont Speech Team has around 35 participants ranging from 7th-12th grade. Speech is open to anyone to join at any time during the season. The Fairmont Speech Team is coached by Kathleen Walker and Erik Walker.
