Fairmont’s Thompson nets 200th career win against St. James Area

ST. JAMES — No. 200.

Fairmont edged St. James Area in a 56-52 nip-and-tuck Big South Conference boys basketball clash to help Cardinals’ mentor Jared Thompson reach the career coaching milestone on Friday night.

Jacob Crissinger connected on four 3-pointers to fuel his 14-point performance and also pocketed three steals to pace Fairmont’s winning ways.

Sawyer Tordsen neared double-double territory by netting 12 points to go with pulling down eight rebounds for the Cardinals, while teammate Zach Jorgensen contributed 11 points and eight boards.

Armando Hernandez supplied six points, five rebounds and a game-best four blocked shots to Fairmont’s triumph, while Levi Pooley scored six points and doled out three assists.

The Cardinals avenged a 68-58 loss to the Saints on Dec. 17 to salvage a regular-season split.

Fairmont, who held a 29-23 halftime advantage, connected on 17 of 40 field goals, including 8 of 20 from 3-point range. The Cardinals also made 14 of 26 free throws, while the Saints attempted just 13, hitting 10.

Tordsen and Jorgensen paced Fairmont’s 38-20 edge on the boards.

Hayden Jones poured in a game-high 27 points to pace St. James Area.

Fairmont (6-8) plays host to Blue Earth Area next Friday night at Cardinal Gym.

Blazer Geiger collected 16 points to help Fairmont edge St. James Area in B-squad action, 39-37, Friday night.

Prince Lebbi contributed 14 points to the Cardinals’ winning cause, while Hadan Toomer chipped in six points.

Nolan Schultze hit a pair of 3-pointers to pace a 13-point performance in steering Fairmont to a 39-30 victory over St. James Area during C-squad action Friday night.

Trevor Maakestad chipped in 10 points for the Cardinals.

Girls Basketball

Fairmont 58, St. James Area 33 — Cadee Becker produced a game-best double-double performance to power the Cardinals to a 25-point Big South Conference triumph over the Saints on Friday night in St. James.

Becker generated 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for Fairmont, which extended its current winning streak to seven consecutive games.

Rayah Quiring netted solid all-around numbers of 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Cardinals, while teammate Brittney Mosloski tallied 12 points, eight boards and three steals.

Emma Gudahl grabbed six rebounds and pocketed three steals, while teammate Maggy Totzke distributed four assists for the Cardinals, who made 9 of 13 free throws on the night.

Fairmont (17-2) travels to Blue Earth Area next Friday night.

Abi Peyman produced 12 points and doled out three assists to engineer Fairmont’s 52-28 win over St. James Area during B-squad action Friday night.

Nevaeh Rahm also netted 12 points, Ava Terfehr tossed in 10 points, while Brylee Miller chipped in nine points and six rebounds for the Cardinals (17-1).
