FAIRMONT — Steve Lang will be bringing his Country Show to Heritage Acres Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 17. The event will include an ecumenical church service at 10 a.m., a soup and sandwich luncheon fundraiser for Heritage Acres at 11 a.m., and Steve will provide live music beginning at noon in Prairieville. The new tipi will be put up at noon for those who want to see how the tipi is erected, and a Native American herbalist will be on hand to talk about edible plants. The event is free, and the public is invited.
The event has been moved back to the third weekend in October to better align with when the crops are traditionally harvested. “During the last few years, we had experimented with the second week in October to try and take advantage of warmer weather, but the crops weren’t quite ready yet,” said Jerry Simon, event coordinator. Of course, this year has been rather strange for the growing season, so the beans may be harvested sooner than later.
All the buildings will be open for self-guided tours, and the farm house will have some fresh-baked cookies. Events also include corn shelling and apple pressing along with other activities for youth. Corn harvesting will be happening with antique tractors and plowing will be done with a sulky.
Plenty of hand sanitizer will be available, and people are more than welcome to wear masks while in the buildings. The Heritage Acres campus is 40 acres and is located at 507 West Lake Avenue in Fairmont.
This activity is made possible in part by a grant from Visit Fairmont.
