Fresh florals and home decor at Dee’s

FAIRMONT– DeAnn Eversman is the face behind Dee’s Floral and Design. Dee’s offers floral, gifts and home decor.

Eversman has worked in the floral business for over 30 years, starting at Fairmont Flowers and then J and R Drug. She opened Dee’s in 2013.

“We try to do the seasons,” Eversman said.

On the home decor side, Eversman said they carry various knick knacks, wooden signs, mini lights, hand towels, and some furniture pieces like end tables and small chairs. She said small gnomes have been very popular recently.

“I’ve always liked decorating. I always change my house out,” she said. Eversman said that fall is her favorite season as she likes the transition.

She said for fall, it’s all about the colors, burnt orange and maroon. Of course, anything pumpkin or apple is popular in the fall months.

Eversman said, “Fall is a longer season, but then it seems that about a week before Thanksgiving, people are thinking about Christmas.”

But for her, Christmas or any other season needs to be thought about months before it arrives.

“We start ordering for Christmas in January. In July when we go to market and it’s spring and summer for the next year,” Eversman said.

The other end of her business is all about florals.

“The majority of our business is fresh. It’s nice to have the gifts too because when people come in and want something fresh it’s nice to have a gift with it,” Eversman said.

She does a lot of arrangements for different occasions but weddings and memorials make up a big portion of the floral side of the business. Helping her out with arrangements include Tom Schultz, floral designer, and Milah Howlett.

Eversman said popular florals for fall include sunflowers, fall mums and lilies.

“A lot of people like to do outdoor pots, so we’ll add dried (flowers or leaves)or silks with that,” She said.

Eversman makes her own custom silk arrangements as well.

While most arrangement are done in vases, Eversman said in the fall, baskets are a popular vessel for arrangements, which is good considering the state of the supply chain right now.

“Right now glassware is hard to find,” Eversman said, adding that other random products have been difficult to come by.

Because she’s an independent business, Eversman doesn’t order multiples of all of her products like some people who own multiple stores can do.

“I’m always open to customer suggestions. If there’s something they want to see I can try to get it,” she said.

Dee’s is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and by appointment.

Starting at $2.99/week.
