Welcome hears from residents

WELCOME — During the public comments/questions period at the Welcome City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 6, two concerned residents were heard. One was inquiring about the overgrown trees and buildings in disrepair at the trailer court. The council assured the resident that the council was working with others to bring about conclusions to the ordinance violations. The second resident commented about large construction equipment on residential property. He and the council will work together to resolve the situation.

The meeting continued by approving a liquor license for the Welcome Legion to have liquor sales for the Welcome Festival street dance on July 17. A city employee, Max Longley, reported on the bids for the water main for the streets by the campground and Truck Writers building. After reviewing the bids the council suggested that the bids were not the same and some items were listed on some but not the others. Longley explained that the bids were bare bones lists and that each list should be the same. The council remarked that the pipes are old and will likely keep breaking. The council approved asking an engineer to plan the repairs and expand the area to the water plant. Longley reported that 30 water meter installations were remaining on his to-do-list.

He hopes to work on them this week and next week. He also reported that the stumps need to be removed before equipment can be placed at the park.

The sealcoating of the south streets and the new streets done in 2019 are scheduled to be done Aug. 24.

The council discussed some ordinance violations in alleys that block snow removal. Vacating the alleys is not available since most utilities are in the alleys.

Starting at $2.99/week.
