PREP SOFTBALL NEWELL-FONDA 19, NORTH UNION 5 FONDA – In their first defeat of the season, the North Union Warriors fell to nonconference opponent Newell-Fonda 19-5 in four innings in their second Saturday game. The game started off red hot with the score 10-4 Newell-Fonda after the first inning. Newell-Fonda tightened up and North Union’s bats went quiet as the score grew to 19-4 after three innings. The Big South Conference revealed its All-Conference Boys Tennis teams for the 2025 season. Making the East Division’s All-Conference Team from Fairmont was sophomore Anthony Stegge along with eighth-grader Tyler Slama, while junior teammate Wylie Frederickson was named Honorable Mention. The Cardinals finished 2-2 in the East Division, with Waseca going 4-0. The West Division’s Redwood Valley, who was 4-0 in the West, won the Big South Conference title with a 5-2 win over Waseca.
BECKER – Martin County West and Granada Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther each have a representative looking to put themselves high on the leaderboard at the Class A State Golf Tournament Tuesday and Wednesday. The Class A tourney will take place in Becker at Pebble Creek. For GHEC, Landon Zimmer comes into the event with a nine-hole average of 39.6. For MCW, Knox Larson has a nine-hole average of 42.2. The Big South Conference released its All-Conference Softball teams on Friday, with three Fairmont Cardinals earning honors. In the Gold Division (Small Schools), Fairmont had junior Brylee Miller and freshman Gwyn Schultz make the team, while senior Gabbie Leiding finished as an Honorable Mention. Fairmont ended the season 15-9 overall and 10-3 in the Big South Conference Gold Division. The Black Division (Big Schools) champion New Ulm defeated the Gold Division champion Jackson County Central in the Big South Conference title game.
