BELLE PLAINE - No. 5 Fairmont got the last laugh during Tuesday night's Section 3AAA Football quarterfinal matchup against No. 4 Belle Plaine. Cardinals quarterback Jensen Livesay pushed for a quarterback sneak touchdown and a two-point conversion with 53 seconds left in the fourth quarter, helping Fairmont secure the 22-21 victory and advance to Saturday's semifinal contest against No. 1 Tri-City United. Fairmont's previous matchup against the Titans on October 14 ended in a 26-25 defeat. The Titans have won their past five contests.

Fairmont took an initial 14-0 lead thanks to two long drives finished with Livesay and running back Keyon Schutz scores. Belle Plaine cut its deficit in half with a touchdown late in the second quarter, as quarterback Reed Creighton found wide receiver Caden Koepp. Creighton connected with Landon Wadsley in the third and fourth quarters to take a Tigers lead.
