Cardinal tennis loses in section championship

PREP TENNIS

ST. JAMES: 6, FAIRMONT: 1

OWATONNA - The No. 2 Fairmont girls tennis team fell to No. 1 St. James 6-1 during Thursday's Section 2A Championship at the Owatonna Tennis and Pickleball Center. Fairmont finishes the 2026 fall with a 15-3 record. Two of those losses came to St. James.

Singles

Elizabeth Shores took down Allison Slama, 3-6, 6-2, 10-7. Ellie Romsdahl defeated Emelia Klanderud, 6-2, 7-5. Claire Carlson got the upper hand over Carly Gustafson, winning 6-4, 6-0. Fairmont's Ada Edmundson earned the Cardinals’ lone point after moving past Brett Blom, 6-4, 7-5.

Doubles

Valeria Aguilar and Ruby Ciske defeated Katherine Zelaya and Addison Toothaker, 6-2, 6-3. Soraya Aguilar and Julia Westman took down Ella Dresselhaus and Cadleigh Jobe, 6-2, 6-2. Maren Bluedorn and Adyson Leimer bested Malana Nigon and Ellena Laven, 6-2, 6-1.

NICOLLET: 3, GHEC/T/ML: 0

TRUMAN - The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther volleyball team lost to Nicollet, 25-13, 25-22, 25-11, during Thursday night's match in Truman. Willow Singleton had 16 digs. Kyana Thomas had two blocks and three kills. Meredith Miller had one block. The Jaguars will travel to Cedar Mountain this Monday starting at 7:00 p.m.
