Area roundup: Fairmont slips to Worthington

WORTHINGTON: 3, FAIRMONT: 1

FAIRMONT - The Fairmont boys soccer team ran out of steam during Thursday night's 3-1 defeat to Worthington at Jeffery Kot Fields. Dammon Castillo tied the score in the first half with a penalty kick. The Trojans, however, scored once more in the first half and once in the second half to pull away. Kain Thepmontry scored on his own penalty kick, while Samuel Togba nailed the exclamation point. Fairmont goalie Brody Deuel notched 16 saves. The Cardinals take on Mankato Loyola this Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. It will be the last home contest of the regular season.

FAIRMONT: 5, WORTHINGTON: 0

WORTHINGTON - The Fairmont girls soccer team made it nine straight victories after taking down Worthington 5-0 during Thursday night's battle on Trojan Field. Mollie Leiding recorded three points after notching an assist to Lauren Zarling and scoring twice in the second half, both unassisted. Makenzie Gerhardt notched two goals herself, once in the first half thanks to a Bethenny Long pass, and the other in the second half unassisted. Fairmont will take on New Ulm at Jeffery Kot Fields for the Big South Girls Soccer Championship next Thursday. First kick is set for 7:00 p.m.
