PREP CROSS COUNTRY
MONTGOMERY - The Fairmont boys’ and girls’ cross-country team competed in the Gerry Smith XC Invitational on Thursday afternoon at Montgomery National Golf Club. Cardinal boys placed 15th (356 points) of 27 teams, while the girls placed ninth (240 points) of 21 teams.
Boys
Cole Hanson led the Fairmont charge once more after picking up his third consecutive first-place finish (16:34.7). Devin Hanson (18:29.2) placed 36th, while Michael Hamlet (19:43.9) earned 78th. Isaac Laidig (21:20.4) and Holden Junkermeier (21:38.1) placed 129th and 142nd, respectively.
Girls
Sophia Streit continued to show her stride during her first season on the Cardinals cross country team. Streit (21:23.1) finished 23rd to lead Fairmont, while Brooklyn Stone (21:28.4) placed 25th. Ellie Drever (22:40.6) placed 59th, and Avery Steuber (23.39.8) was in 75th. Delaney Klug 24:35.0) rounded out the scoring after finishing 98th.
PREP GIRLS SOCCER
FAIRMONT: 1, MARSHALL: 1
MARSHALL - Fairmont girls soccer tied with Marshall, 1-1, during its road trip to Southwest Minnesota State University. The Cardinals are now 2-2-1 on the season. Megan Hector picked up eight saves during her first start of the year. Mollie Leiding scored the equalizing Fairmont goal to push an eventual tie. The Cardinals travel to Cannon Falls this Saturday for a contest at 1:00 p.m.
