FAIRMONT: 34, WORTHINGTON: 0
WORTHINGTON - Jensen Livesay tossed two touchdowns, Keyon Schutz ran in a pair while Mason Bicknase had one, and the Fairmont football team picked up its first win of 2026 during its season opener on Friday night with its 34-0 victory over Worthington. Livesay connected with Owen Terfehr and Brayden Williamson for 27 and 68 yards for his two slinging scores. Schutz scored in the second and third quarters for four and five yards. Bicknase's lone touchdown scamper was good for nine. Boe Kolbe finished with four extra points, getting one blocked after the Cardinals final touchdown.
Fairmont will play its Week Two contest at New Ulm next Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
PREP CROSS COUNTRY
MOUNTAIN LAKE - The Fairmont cross-country team competed in the Paul Metcalf Cross Country Invite on Friday at Mt. Lake Golf Course. The boys finished 6th out of 10 teams, while the girls notched a fourth-place finish among the nine competing squads.
Cole Hanson strung together his second consecutive first-place finish after recording a time of 16:55.9. Devin Hanson (19:20.0) followed in 17th place, while Michael Hamlet (19:49.7) got 25th place. Isaac Laidig (21:29.0) and Holden Junkermeier (23:05.0) placed 42nd and 60th to complete Fairmont's top five.
Two female Cardinal runners placed in the top 10 during their 5,000-meter competition. Brooklyn Stone (21:50.1) and Sophia Streit (21:55.6) were neck and neck all race long, placing sixth and seventh as Fairmont's top two placers. Ellie Drever (22.42.7) got 18th. Three Cardinals found the top 20. Delaney Klug (25:24.0) finished 41st. Qwynn Healey (28:15.7) got 62nd.
Fairmont returns to action next Thursday at Montgomery National Golf Club, host of this season's Gerry Smith XC Invitational.
