FAIRMONT: 9, COLD SPRING: 1
NEW PRAGUE - The Fairmont Martins win once more. Spencer Chirpich's complete-game gem was followed by a barrage of offense from Eli Anderson and Joey Crissinger, fueling Fairmont to a 9-1 win over the Cold Spring Rockies in the MBA Class C State Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Martins will take on the Richmond Royals this Friday at Chaska Athletic Park. First pitch is slated for 7:30 p.m.
Seven different Fairmont players recorded a hit to fuel the nine runs. Scoring from the Martins happened in all but two innings. Crissinger led the team with four hits, one of which was a double. Anderson's double sparked his three-hit night. Both bats brought in a combined three runs. Jon Traetow clobbered a home run in the bottom of the third for one of his two hits. Derek Shoen, Chirpich, Zach Jorgenson and Levi Becker also notched a base hit.
Chirpich allowed just one run over his nine frames, striking out two and giving up four hits. The Rockies’ lone run came in the fourth inning.
PREP FOOTBALL
NORTH UNION: 66, NEWELL-FONDA: 7
NEWELL - North Union football continues to dominate. Coming off a monster Week 0 victory over Collins-Maxwell, the Warriors continued to run up the score last Friday night, beating Newell-Fonda 66-7.
Carson Crouch had another impressive showing. The running back tallied 193 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. Crouch collected 66 more yards and a score on his two punt return attempts. Quarterback Greyson Colegrove went 4/7 for 75 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception. He also ran for 60 yards and two scores. North Union finished the contest with 383 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Caden Zotz, Max Heinen and Drake Nelson all found the end zone on the ground. Cooper Hoye had the lone touchdown reception.
North Union will take on North Iowa this Friday night in Armstrong. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
PREP TENNIS
FAIRMONT: 7, USC: 0
FAIRMONT - Fairmont girls tennis remained unbeaten after taking down United South Central on Monday night, winning 7-0. It's the third time this season the Cardinals have swept an opponent.
Emelia Klanderud beat Ivy Orourke, 6-2, 6-4. Carly Gustafson took down Elise Hanson in consecutive 6-1 sets. Ada Edmundson defeated Brook Hyper, 6-3, 6-3. Cadleigh Jobe bested Ella Schmidtke, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, Allison Slama and Katherine Zelaya beat Kylee Koziolek and Julianna Clore, 6-1, 6-1. Ella Dresselhaus and Addison Toothaker took down Caitlin Rheingans and Gretchen Bungum, 6-1, 6-4. Malena Nigon and Ellena Laven dominated Tori Steremer and Kinley Koziolek, 6-1, 6-4.
Fairmont will take on St. James on Tuesday afternoon starting at 4:30 p.m.
PREP SOCCER
LCR: 2, FAIRMONT: 1
LA CRESCENT - Fairmont girls soccer suffered its first defeat of 2026 after falling to La Crescent-Hokah 2-1 on Monday afternoon.
Cardinals goalkeeper finished the contest with 17 saves. Fairmont scored their lone goal off a corner kick from Lianna Weber. Weber's pass fell to McKenna Ludacer, who punched it in and past the net.
Fairmont will take on New Ulm on Tuesday night at Jeffrey Kot Fields starting at 7:00 p.m.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
TCU: 3, FAIRMONT: 0
FAIRMONT - The Fairmont volleyball team was bested by Tri-City United on Monday night in straight sets - 24-26, 20-25, 13-25. Nora Fitzgerald went 13/13 on serves while collecting nine points and one ace. Ella Wubbena went 10/13 on her serves with seven points and two aces. Jadyn Montgomery finished with four kills.
Fairmont plays at Worthington this Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
