Windom clinches Region Championship at Herb Wolf Field

FAIRMONT - A flurry of offense in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings did the job for the top-seeded Windom Pirates on Friday night. Paired with a solid start from Drew Rothenberger on the mound, the Pirates knocked off No. 2 Fairmont 7-3 in Game Two of the Region 10C Championship series, taking home the title for the second straight season.

Windom finished the contest outhitting the Martins 13-5. Five of those hits came in their four-run fourth inning to take the game’s first advantage. Alex Fink had an RBI single, while Luke Gilbertson and Hayden Tietz hit consecutive doubles to bring in the final run. Rothenberger, Chase McDaniel and Kobe Lovell had the other three RBIs for Windom. Rothenberger tossed five innings, struck out seven batters and allowed no runs.

Luke Becker had the lone RBI for Fairmont in the seventh inning. He and Eli Anderson led the team with two hits. Nolyn Goerndt had the other hit. The Martins struck out 13 times with five walks. Lincoln Swanjord tossed the first six frames for Fairmont, allowing 10 hits, with three of the six runs being earned. He struck out two batters. Anderson threw the last three innings and allowed one run off three hits.
