Martins take game one over Worthington

FAIRMONT - Nine hits equalled nine runs for the Fairmont Martins on Wednesday night. In Fairmont's opening game of its three game series against the Worthington Cubs in the second round of the Region 10C Playoffs, it was the big boost of offensive firepower that helped guide the victory, winning 9-1 at Herb Wolf Field to take game one with authority.
Joey Crissinger led all Martins with three hits that helped bring in three runs. Spencer Chirpich had two hits, while Joseph Hackett, Jon Traetow, Luke Becker and Eli Anderson each had one. Traetow's lone hit came in the form of a home run in the fourth frame. Josh Smith and Jack Hested threw all nine frames for the Martins while surrendering four hits and striking out 11.
Fairmont will play game two of the series this Friday at Herb Wolf Field once more. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. The full game story will be found in Friday’s edition of the Sentinel.
