Warrior softball splits in Spirit Lake tournament

SPIRIT LAKE – The North Union softball team split its two games in the Spirit Lake Tournament this past weekend. A win over Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Remsen-Union was immediately followed by a defeat at the hands of Bishop Heelan later that Saturday afternoon. The Warriors are now 11-5 on the season, winning six of their past eight contests. They will take on Saint Ansgar on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.

Game one

The Warriors began the day with an emphatic victory over MMCRU, winning 9-1 as their steady stream of offensive firepower carried them through the final four innings. Aindley Ulrich, Brylie Deim and Aslynn Sobolik each had three hits to help lead the efforts, with Deim bringing in two runs herself. Sobolik had two doubles. Maisey Beirstedt used her home run to tack on three RBIs. Five of North Union’s 11 hits were extra bases. Ulrich needed just 61 pitches to maneuver her way through a six-inning complete game. She allowed one run on four hits, striking out five in the process.

Game two

Two runs in the third and fifth frames were just enough for Bishop Heelan to power past North Union 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Crusader three-hole hitter Isabelle Laffin had two RBIs and a home run to help her team’s offense. Erin Fitzpatrick held North Union to three hits, two of which came from the bat of Beirstedt. Ulrich tossed five and one-third innings. She gave up nine hits and three earned runs. Olivia Price completed the rest of the contest, tossing two-thirds of a frame. She allowed one run.
