Area roundup: Fairmont baseball extends winning streak to six

PREP BASEBALL

FAIRMONT 14, JCC 2

JACKSON – 12 runs in the fourth and fifth innings proved to be the difference during Fairmont’s 14-2 victory over Jackson County Central on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies tied the game up at two apiece in the bottom of the third. But four scores in the fourth and eight in the fifth lifted the Cardinals for their sixth straight victory. Fairmont is now 14-4 on the season.

Joey Crissinger had a home run and two walks. Merritt Pomerenke went 3-4 with a triple. Jensen Livesay had three hits as well, which helped bring in two Fairmont runs. Joseph Hackett and Mason Bicknase each had two hits. Noah Heckman tossed the opening four innings and allowed one earned run on one hit. He finished with six walks and four strikeouts. Hackett threw the fifth inning and collected a walk and strikeouts each.

Fairmont takes on Cannon Falls this Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

 

PREP GOLF

MORTON – The Fairmont boys’ golf team competed and placed seventh in this year’s Big South Boys Conference Championships at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton. Fairmont finished with a team score of 384 and was just four strokes away from Redwood Valley, which finished the competition in fifth. St. Peter took home the crown with their score of 321. New Ulm placed second after shooting a 342.

Mack Anderson and Klay Beemer placed 22nd and 27th with their team low scores of 94 and 95. Aaron Becker got a 97, while Hudson McKean shot a 98. Chase Haugen broke 100 after his hole-in-one on hole No. 4 ended his round at 99.

 

PREP SOFTBALL

MCW 10, SLEEPY EYE 0

SLEEPY EYE – The Martin County West softball team improved to an impressive 19-1 record following their 10-0 victory past Sleepy Eye on Tuesday. The Mavericks scored one or more runs in each inning to install the mercy rule.

Maddie Carlson tossed another shutout from the circle, collecting eight strikeouts and allowing zero walks. Lillie Schultz went 3-3 and scored four runs. Emily Schettler went 2-2 with two doubles. Courtney Anderson had two hits and two RBIs, as did Ida Rohman. Bailey Larson had two hits and an RBI, while Carlson and Rowan Faber had one hit and one RBI.
