Area roundup: Fairmont boys golf win BSC event

PREP GOLF
Both boys’ and girls’ Fairmont golf teams competed in a Big South Division meet on Monday afternoon. While the girls, who traveled to Redwood Valley, placed fourth with a score of 435, the boys took first place at their home course, Interlaken, with a score of 330, beating Redwood Valley by one stroke.
Klay Beemer was the star of the day for Fairmont, placing first individually with his score of 78. Hudson McKean wasn’t too far behind, shooting an 81 and placing fifth. Jalin Jackson rounded off the top 10 after his 85 was good enough for ninth. Aaron Becker and Macklain Anderson each shot an 86, placing 13th. Luverne got third in the meet with a 339.
Katherine Zelaya got the top score for Fairmont with her 88, placing second individually. Leslie Zarling got fifth after shooting a 94. Joslyn Meyer finished with a 119, while Annaliese Rahm got a 134, respectively.
The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther boys and girls golf teams competed in the Tomahawk Valley Conference Meet #2 on Monday afternoon. The boys placed sixth with a team score of 391, while the girls finished fifth with a score of 447.
Gavin Kester was the highest-placing Jaguar finisher. He shot an 87 to place eighth overall. Jevin Garry had a solid day with his 93, earning a spot at 18th. Elijah Jensen cracked the top 30 after shooting a 98 and placing 28th.
Charlotte Berhow and Meredith Miller were the top two finishers on the girls’ team, shooting a 106 and 108 to place 13th and 18th overall. Phoebe Madsen got 23rd with her score of 111.
PREP BASEBALL
TCU 3, FAIRMONT 2
MONTGOMERY – Fairmont’s late-game comeback proved to be not enough on Monday night against Tri-City United, falling to the Titans 3-2 and snapping a three-game win streak.
Noah Heckman got the start for the Cardinals, throwing five innings with two of the three total runs being earned. Mason Bicknase threw the final frame and didn’t allow a hit. Both arms combined for eight strikeouts. Jensen Livesay had two of Fairmont’s five hits on the night. Joe Long had a triple and Joey Crissinger had a double, both bringing in runs.
PREP SOFTBALL
MCW 17, MVL 2
WELCOME – Eight runs in the fourth inning rocketed the Martin County West softball team past Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday afternoon, winning the game 17-2 and improving to 12-1 on the season.
Maddie Carlson threw all four innings for the Mavericks and piled up five strikeouts. Emily Schettler had a huge day at the plate, hitting two home runs and bringing in a total of six RBIs. Rowan Faber had two doubles, while Courtney Anderson also picked up two hits. Lillie Schultz, Taylor Hughes, Sydney Clow and Hayley Clarke each recorded a hit for MCW.
