NEW ULM — As Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther came out of the third inning of a nonconference softball game with a 4-1 lead over Minnesota Valley Lutheran, the MVL Chargers needed to find something to prevent a fourth loss to start the 2026 season.

And find something they did, as the Chargers put together a three-run fourth inning and a six-run fifth inning to help solidify a 10-6 win Friday.

Katlyn Stadick earned the win for the Chargers, going seven innings and allowing six runs on 10 hits. At the plate, Stadick had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored, including the game-tying run in the fourth.

Also for the Chargers, Grace Onken was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Sophia Dalueg was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Caitlyn Kock was 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Kenzie Graham and Nora Grace Otto each had two hits and an RBI. Eight players recorded at least one hit for the Chargers as they saw success up and down the lineup.

Peyton Stohls took the loss for the Jaguars, striking out five while allowing nine earned runs on 16 hits in six innings. At the plate, Stohs was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Mariel Parish, Addison Smith, Lili Wiens, Kyana Thomas and Ashlynn Dirks each had a hit and an RBI. GHEC/T/ML also saw nine batters record a hit, but only Stohs had a multi-hit day.

After a 1-2-3 top of the first, MVL recorded the first run of the game as Jess Meunier singled to bring home Onken. Neither team scored in the second, but the Jaguars scored four in the third, with Dirks bringing home Stohs, Parish plating Dirks, Smith grounding into an out that scored Parish, and Wiens connecting on a sacrifice fly that Maeson Olson tagged up on for a 4-1 lead.

The fourth was another scoreless inning, but MVL started the comeback as Nora Grace Otto singled and then came home on a double by Dalueg. Stohs struck out the next two batters, but a double from Stadick brought home Dalueg, and Graham tied the game on a single to right field. MVL carried the momentum into the fifth inning, where A single from Taryn Gunderson set up Nora Grace Otto for an RBI single, then Kock drove home two runs with a double to center for a 7-4 lead. Onken singled to bring home Sam Eckstrand and Kock, and the Chargers scored one final run in the inning on an error put into play by Meunier as Stadick came home for a 10-4 lead.

GHEC/T/ML recorded three consecutive hits to start the sixth, looking for a comeback of its own. A Chloe Nestegard single led to an RBI single from Thomas, then Stohs doubled to score Thomas to cut the lead to 10-6. However, a 6-3-5 double play halted the Jaguars in their tracks as Gunderson got the runner at first, then Nora Grace Otto threw out Stohs as she attempted to take third. GHEC/T/ML had one more chance in the top of the sixth as it loaded the bases, but Stadick coaxed a groundout, making the play herself, to seal the win.

GHEC/T/ML hosts Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons at Truman on Tuesday.
