Area roundup: Fairmont boys golf compete in Worthington

PREP GOLF

WORTHINGTON – Fairmont boys’ golf shot a 343 as a team during their outing at Worthington Golf Course on Friday afternoon. This mark beat the season’s previous by 36 strokes, as the Cardinals placed third behind Luverne and Western Christian.

Hudson McKean and Jalin Jackson were the two top golfers with scores of 84 and 85, respectively. Klay Beemer and Macklain Anderson were the two other players to shoot under 90 with scores of 86 and 88. Chase Haugen and Tyson McKean rounded off the lineup with scores of 93 and 95.

The Cardinals are back in action next Thursday at the New Ulm Invite.

 

PREP SOFTBALL

MCW 3, WINDOM AREA 2

WINDOM – Maddie Carlson’s seventh-inning RBI double propelled Martin County West softball past Windom Area 3-2 on Friday night. Carlson used Rowan Faber’s single and stolen base to bring in the winning run.

Carlson got the nod in the circle, producing another gem with seven innings of two-run softball. She struck out seven batters while allowing just one walk. Courtney Anderson hit an RBI double of her own in the third frame. Lillie Schultz and Emma Geldart each notched a hit.

MCW will host Mountain Lake next Monday at the Fox Lake Area Sports Complex.

 

PREP TRACK AND FIELD

BLUE EARTH – Fairmont and Martin County West track and field teams competed at the Blue Earth Meet on Friday afternoon. The Cardinals took home first-place finishes in both boys’ and girls’ with 180 and 177 points, respectively. MCW finished fifth on both sides.

Brier Lenort, Jordan Thompson and Carmyne Hecht took home first, second and third in the 400-meter dash, while Addison Toothaker placed first for the girls. Cole Hanson got first in the 1600-meter run with a personal best time of 4:51.79. Devin Hanson got second in the 3200 with a personal best of 10:54.75. Fairmont’s 4 by 100, 4 by 200 and 4 by 400 relay races got first place for both boys and girls. Kaylee Kloeckner got first place in her shot put toss, while Tyler Bicknase got second for the boys. Jase Meade and Ellie Perkins each got first place in the pole vault. Perkins’ mark of 11′ 3″ was her season best. Travohn Harvey notched a season best mark in triple jump, 40′ 6.5″, to win the event. Emerson Jackson got first place for the girls, with Jadyn Montgomery and Harlee Fastnacht getting second and third.

Kate Swanson, Mirta Gracia, Inga Olson and Evelynn Christenson rallied the Mavericks 4 by 800 relay team to a third-place finish. The MCW girls’ DMR 1600-meter relay team got second behind Fairmont. Mylee Larson continued her strong start to the season in throws. Her personal best mark of 30′ 9″ placed second behind Kloeckner in shot put, while also getting second in discus with a 95′ 7″. Hayden O’Connor got third in the triple jump with a personal best of 36′ 1″.
