Area roundup: Miller earns 2,000 point milestone

Fairmont 62, Pipestone 56

PIPESTONE – Brylee Miller scored 40 points while surpassing the 2,000 career point milestone during Friday night’s 62-56 victory over Pipestone Area. The Cardinals now advance to 18-1 on the season, extending their winning streak to 10. Their last defeat was on Tuesday, Dec 30.

Miller made 14 field goals while knocking down 12 of 14 free throw attempts to fuel her historic night. She also added 12 rebounds, three steals and three assists. Bria Williamson and Makayla Lowry each had six points.

Fairmont (18-1) will continue its season against St. Peter at 7:30 p.m.

 

GHEC/T/ML 69, AC/GE 42

ALDEN – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther girls basketball team defeated Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons for the second consecutive night following Friday’s 69-42 victory.

Keira Benck strung together 25 points, six steals and four assists. Addison Nowicki nailed five 3-pointers to fuel her 23 point scoring night. Nowicki furthered her performance with five assists and three steals.

GHEC/T/ML (10-6) plays Madelia next Monday at 7 p.m.

 

BOYS BASKETBALL

Fairmont 55, Pipestone Area 42

PIPESTONE – Logan Junkermeier and Joseph Hacker powered the Fairmont boys basketball team to a 55-42 victory over Pipestone Area on Friday night. The Cardinals’ win propelled the group to a 14-2 record and their ninth consecutive win.

Junkermeier led all scorers with an 18 point performance, knocking down over half of his shots while grabbing 14 rebounds. Hackett continued to stay hot from the perimeter, nailing four 3-pointers to charge his 13 point night. Joe Long finished with eight points, two assists and two rebounds.

Fairmont (14-2) will play Belle Plaine next Monday at 7:30 p.m.
