FAIRMONT – Fulda/Murray County Central’s five straight weight class victories proved to be the deciding factor during Thursday night’s dual competition against the Martin County Red Bulls, defeating their opponent 40-31 in the Fairmont High School gymnasium.

Thursday’s schedule was shifted due to the ongoing weather conditions, with Tri-City United removed. The event was originally supposed to be a triangular competition among the three teams.

Brock Jagodzinski and Pierce Rohman got things going for the Red Bulls immediately at the 114 and 133 weight classes.

Jagodzinskiused an onslaught of moves to slowly chip away at F/MCC’s Brodik Clarke before finally securing the take-down pin. Rohman’s victory against Kaston Clarke was a methodical beating that lasted all three rounds. Rohman finally earned the technical fall reward with a final take-down. The Red Bulls had the advantage, 17-12.

Keeping the lead for the Red Bulls was Brock Stauffer at 145. Stauffer dominated Adam Iverson throughout the two-round match, securing a handful of takedowns and never allowing any breathing room. He secured the pin with 36 seconds remaining in the second round, giving his team a 23-18 advantage.

This was the last lead Martin County would have the rest of the night. The Warriors rattled off five consecutive victories through weight classes 152 and 189, including pins from Quintin Lewis (160 lbs) and Luke Iverson (189 lbs) that secured wins over Red Bulls Kaedin Lange and Austin Newcombe. Newcombe’s defeat sealed the dual victory for F/MCC.

However, Martin County finished strong at 215 and 285.

Aaron Becker entered his second period against Vincent Bray with a 6-1 advantage after notching a pair of decisive takedowns. He added four more points before delivering the finishing touches for a technical fall.

DJ Miller wrapped things up with a back-and-forth matchup against Colby Kesteloot. Despite treading into deep waters early, Miller outlasted his opponent to secure a 7-2 decision win.

The Martin County Red Bulls will host another triangular next Tuesday at Martin County West High School.
