Area roundup: Fairmont drops to Minnesota River in OT

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont girls hockey team fell to Minnesota River 1-0 in overtime during Monday night’s matchup at Martin County Arena. This is the second consecutive overtime defeat head coach Aaron Haycraft and his Fairmont team have suffered, losing to Albert Lea last Monday, 1-0 in extra time.

Fairmont goalie Alexis Sundeen recorded 42 saves on the night, including 14 in the third period. The Cardinals were outshot 43-20.

Fairmont (8-8-2) will travel to Luverne on Tuesday night. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. in Blue Mound Ice Arena.

BOYS BASKETBALL

GHEC/T/ML 76, HL/O/F 56

TRUMAN – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther boys basketball team toppled Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 76-56 on Monday night. The Jaguars improve their record to 4-9 on the season and snap a three-game losing streak. Three different GHEC/T/ML players had double-figure scoring performances.

Reagan Emmert led all scorers with 21 points after knocking down five outside shots. Eli Jensen had three 3-pointers of his own to fuel a 15 point output. Ethan Jaskulke scored 11 points to go with his eight rebounds. At least 10 Jaguars recorded a field goal.

GHEC/T/ML (4-9) will continue its season this Thursday against New Ulm Cathedral, starting at 7 p.m.
