Red Bulls fall at NUA Tri
NEW ULM – The Martin County Red Bulls fell to New Ulm and Dawson-Boyd/Lac Qui Parle/Montevideo United during Tuesday evening’s New Ulm Triangular held at the New Ulm High School.
Pierce Rohman (145) went 2-0 on the night with impressive decision wins over New Ulm’s Elijah Rieser, 18-4, and DBLQPMU’s Benjamin Gunlogson, 4-1. Both Rieser and Gunlogson are ranked inside the top 10 of their respective weight classes of 145 and 139 pounds.
Torrey Paplow (152) took down the No. 3 wrestler in the 160 pound weight class in Kameron Sather from DBLQPMU, winning in a 10-3 decision. Paplow also defeated New Ulm’s Tegan Kral via technical fall.
The Red Bulls will continue their season this Thursday, competing in the Red Bull Triangular held at the Fairmont High School.
BOYS HOCKEY
Fairmont 8, Worthington 1
WORTHINGTON – The Fairmont boys hockey team took down Worthington on Tuesday night 8-1 at the Worthington Hockey Arena.
Gavin Kester and Jase Meade each had two scores for the Cardinals. Preston Cepress, Dayton Draper, Tyler Pankow and Klay Beemer all had a score on their own to round off the point total.
The Cardinals (4-5) will host Marshall this Thursday at Martin County Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Fairmont 61, SJA 42
ST. JAMES – The Fairmont girls basketball team defeated St. James Area on Tuesday night 61-42. The Cardinals had 15 steals while picking up 10 assists.
Brylee Miller stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds, five steals, five assists and four blocks. Bria Williamson’s six field goals led to 12 points.
Fairmont (10-1) will continue its season this Thursday against Martin County West beginning at 7 p.m.
North Union 69, Eagle Grove 30
ARMSTRONG – The North Union girls basketball team took care of business against Eagle Grove on Tuesday night, taking down the Eagles 69-30 after an impressive 24 point first quarter.
Ainsley Ulrich led all scorers with 24 points on nine made field goals. Maisey Bierstedt notched 13 points, seven rebounds and five blocks. Shallie Walders had five assists and four steals on the night.
The Warriors (7-3) will take on Garner Hayfield Ventura this Friday starting at 6:15 p.m.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Fairmont 63, SJA 57
ST. JAMES – The Fairmont boys basketball team rallied a first half deficit to take down St. James Area 63-57 on Tuesday night at the SJA Event Center.
Logan Junkermeier’s big night consisted of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Brayden Williamson’s three 3-pointers fueled his 11-point scoring performance. Reed Johnson muscled his way to 11 points and five rebounds. Tavian Harvey, Joe Hackett and Merritt Pomerenke each knocked down an outside shot.
Fairmont (9-2) will continue its season next Monday against Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial starting at 7:30 p.m.
North Union 57, Eagle Grove 46
ARMSTRONG – The North Union boys basketball team used a strong third and fourth quarter effort to power past Eagle Grove 57-46 on Tuesday night in Armstrong, Iowa.
Khael Jones had 27 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals to cap off an impressive outing. Greyson Colegrove knocked down four shots to power a 11-point performance. The Warriors forced 17 steals on the night while collecting nine offensive rebounds.
North Union (8-2) will take on Garner Hayfield Ventura this Friday starting at 7:30 p.m.
