Area Roundup: Magic soar past New Ulm

GIRLS GYMNASTICS
FAIRMONT – The Martin County Magic defeated New Ulm 135-128.225 on Friday night at the Fairmont Armory.
Lillie Schultz led all individuals with an All Around score of 35.6, scoring a meet high on vault (9.375), bars (8.325) and floor (9.15). Jadyn Montgomery and Nola Thedens rounded out the Magic’s representation in the All Around top five, earning scores of 34.45 and 31.5, respectively. Montgomery earned a first place finish on beam with her score of 8.875.
BOYS HOCKEY
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont boys hockey team dropped to Red Wing on Friday night, 4-1, at Martin County Arena.
The Cardinals lone score came in the second period on a power play opportunity. Gavin Kester found Klay Bemer for a score that trimmed the deficit to 3-1. The Wingers scored one more goal later that period to ultimately put the contest out of reach.
Fairmont (3-2) will continue its season tonight against Winona Senior starting at 7 p.m.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
SHERBURN – The Martin County West girls basketball team took care of Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Friday night, securing a 61-39 victory to move the Mavericks to 4-3 on the season.
Courtney Anderson notched 14 points. Ida Rohman had 12 of her own, while Ivy Olson chipped in 10, respectively.
The Mavericks will continue their season this Monday against United South Central starting at 7 p.m.
ARMSTRONG – The North Union girls basketball team fell to Bishop Garrigan 70-58 on Friday night at the North Union High School.
Ainsley Ulrich had 24 points and five rebounds. Shallie Walders had 11 points and three assists. The Warriors were held to 30% from long distance.
North Union (5-2) will play at Lake Mills this Monday starting at 6:15 p.m.
BOYS BASKETBALL
ARMSTRONG – The North Union boys basketball team dropped to Bishop Garrigan 44-35 on Friday night at the North Union High School.
Khael Jones led all scorers with 23 points on four 3-pointers. Greyson Colegrove chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
North Union (5-2) will play at Lake Mills this Monday starting at 7:45 p.m.
