Area Roundup: Boys hockey takes down Windom

BOYS HOCKEY

FAIRMONT 3, WINDOM 2

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont boys hockey team took down Windom on Thursday night, 3-2, in the Martin County Arena, picking up the Cardinals’ second win of the early season.

Logan Madsen started things off with a goal in the first period off a pass from Preston Geerdes. Preston Cepress added one more in the first frame off a pass from Klay Beemer to give Fairmont a 2-0 advantage. After Winona tied things up in the third period, it was Cepress again finding the back of the net, off an assist from Gavin Kester, to seal the deal for the Cardinals.

Fairmont (2-1) will continue its season with a home match against Redwood Valley next Tuesday, starting at 7 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

MCW 64, MVL 51

SHERBURN – The Martin County West Mavericks defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 64-51 in a nonconference game Thursday.

Ida Rohman led the way with 14 points. Baily Larson and Emily Schettler both scored 12 points, while Courtney Anderson had 9 points.

The Mavericks (3-2) have their next game Monday, December 15, at home versus Nicollet at 7 p.m.

SLEEPY EYE 68, GHEC-T-ML 59

SLEEPY EYE – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars fell to Sleepy Eye 68-59 in a nonconference matchup Thursday.

Londyn Bowers led the way with a near triple-double of 18 points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals. Keira Benck poured on 17 points and four rebounds. Addison Nowicki had 10 points and six rebounds.

The Jaguars (2-3) go on the road Saturday, December 13, to play North Union at 1 p.m. in Armstrong, Iowa.

SLEEPY EYE 97, GHEC-T-ML 62

SLEEPY EYE – The Granada Huntley East Chain-Truman-Martin Luther Jaguars lost to Sleepy Eye 97-62 in a nonconference game Thursday.

Eli Jensen led the Jaguars with 22 points. Brody Grathwohl added 11 points, while Griffin Studer had 10 points and three assists.

The Jaguars (1-3) go up against North Union Saturday, December 13, at 3 p.m. on the road in Armstrong, Iowa.
