Area roundup: Fairmont girls extend winning streak

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Fairmont 57,

Redwood Valley 17

REDWOOD FALLS – Double-digit efforts from Brylee Miller and Gwyneth Schultz powered the Fairmont High School girls basketball team to its third win of the season, beating Redwood Valley, 57-17, on Friday night. Miller had 15 points and four steals. Schultz scored 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

Fairmont (3-0) heads to Blue Earth next Tuesday to take on the Buccaneers at 6 p.m.

LCWM 72,

GHEC/T/ML 37

CRYSTAL – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther girls basketball team fell to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Friday night, 72-37. Keira Benck led all scorers with 11 points. Benck and Londyn Bowers each had six rebounds, while Addison Nowicki notched eight.

The Jaguars (1-2) will continue their season next Tuesday with a home contest against Nicollet starting at 7 p.m.

North Union 72,

North Iowa 31

ARMSTRONG – North Union High School girls basketball defeated North Iowa, 72-31, on Friday night in Armstrong. Ainsley Ulrich notched 29 points on 54% shooting from the field. Shallie Walders and Alexis Cummins had 17 and 12 points, respectively. The Warriors forced 26 steals while assisting on 14 baskets.

North Union (2-0) will take on Estherville Lincoln Central next Monday at 6 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

North Union 76,

North Iowa 50

ARMSTRONG – Four double-digit scorers propelled the North Union High School boys basketball team to a 76-50 win over North Iowa on Friday night. Drew Henderson and Khael Jones combined for 41 points after knocking down seven three-pointers. Greyson Colegrove and Lane Bruhn each had 11 points.

North Union (2-0) will play Estherville Lincoln Central next Monday at 7:30 p.m.
