Klanderud, Slama finish seasons at state
MINNEAPOLIS – Fairmont High School girls tennis doubles duo Emelia Klanderud and Allison Slama fell in the second round of the 2025 State Class A Tennis Bracket on Thursday afternoon at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
The tandem topped Tara Beyer and Emily McGinty from Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Co-op, 6-0, 6-1, during the initial 10 a.m. opening round. At 2 p.m., however, the two fell to the No. 1 seed of the tournament in Abbey Perry and Addie Berman from Breck in straight sets. After a competitive first set of 7-6, the doubles pair ultimately fell again in the second set, 6-2, ending their season as a whole.

Christenson earns state berth for MCW/BO
NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA – The Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin cross-country team competed in the 2025 Section 2A Cross-Country Championships on Thursday at Baylor Park in Norwood Young America. The boys team placed 12th, while the girls earned 10th, respectively.
The highlight of the day came from the girls side, when Evelynn Christenson’s sixth-place finish (19:33.64) put her over the edge of state qualifiers, giving the sophomore a chance to compete in the 2025 Class A Cross-Country State Tournament on Nov. 1 in St. Paul. Following Christenson for the Mavericks, who recorded a team score of 226, were Katelynn Kennedy (23:37.32), Mirta Garcia (23:56.49), and Kate Swanson (24:01.48), who placed 58th, 62nd, and 64th, respectively.
Helping lead the boys team to a score of 300 were Dominic Dietz (18:43.64) and Marek Mulder (18:53.69), who placed 41st and 49th.
