Area football roundup: Fairmont falls to Albert Lea
ALBERT LEA – Fairmont High School football fell to the undefeated Albert Lea Tigers 29-24 last Friday night at the Albert Lea Hammer Complex. Despite scoring 18 unanswered points in the second and third quarters, the Cardinals ultimately fell short on the road.
Quarterback Joe Long left his imprint on the contest after showing fans his mix of passing and running abilities. The senior strung together 178 yards through the air while churning for another 107 with his feet, including a 59-yard touchdown scramble in the fourth quarter. Long ended the night with four total touchdowns.
Running backs Ty Tumbleson and Dakota Wiley had 35 and 31 yards, respectively.
Merritt Pomerenke led all receivers with 102 touchdowns and one score of his own.
The Cardinals (3-2) continue their season this Friday against Belle Plaine for the final home game of the regular season. Kickoff is set to begin at 7 p.m.
Hills Beaver Creek 50, GHEC/T 8
TRUMAN – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman football team dropped to Hills Beaver Creek 50-8 in Truman last Friday night.
Quarterback Reagan Emmert dished out 105 passing yards, including a 74-yard touchdown connection to Griffin Studer. Emmert also had 17 yards with his feet. Studer’s 99 receiving yards led all Jaguars.
GHEC/T (2-3) continues the season this Friday against Adrian in Granada. Kickoff is set to begin at 7 p.m.
