Area football roundup: Cardinals trounce Austin
Fairmont 57, Austin 13
AUSTIN – Fairmont High School football took down Austin 57-13 this past Saturday at the Austin Wescott Sports Complex. After postponing the game from Friday night to Saturday afternoon due to severe weather, the contest resumed with Fairmont leading 16-0 over the Packers midway through the second quarter.
Cardinals quarterback Joe Long went 10 for 10 passing while gathering 225 yards and three touchdowns-connecting with Travon Harvey, Owen Terfehr, and Macklain Anderson for scores in the second quarter. Running back Ty Tumbleson tallied 120 yards on the ground with two touchdowns, including a 48-yard touchdown run to kick things off for Fairmont.
Head coach Mat Mahoney’s defense was all over the field during this weekend’s efforts, holding Austin to negative 36 rushing yards and scoring three touchdowns. Tavian Harvey and Brayden Williamson both had interception returns of more than 30 yards, while Mason Bicknase scooped up a fumble for a 40-yard score himself.
Fairmont (3-1) stays on the road this Friday, traveling to the Albert Lea Hammer Complex to take on the Tigers. Kickoff is set to begin at 7 p.m.

MOUNTAIN LAKE – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman football team toppled Mountain Lake Area 50-0 on Friday night. Head coach Alex Roorda’s team now advances to 2-2 on the year.
The Jaguars victory was powered by an aggressive ground game from a multitude of players. Bowan Sill picked up 162 yards and two touchdowns with his legs. Brody Grathwohl tacked on 105 yards on 18 carries. Quarterback Reagan Emmert threw in 79 yards himself. GHEC/T ended the game with 386 rushing yards, averaging 8.2 yards per carry.
The Jaguars pick up the season this Friday with a home contest against Hills-Beaver Creek starting at 7 p.m.
Lester Prairie 16, MCW 6
LESTER PRAIRIE – The Martin County West High School football team dropped to 1-3 on the season following last Friday’s 16-6 road defeat to Lester Prairie.
Pierce Rohman and Maddex Faber had 66 and 68 rushing yards on the evening with Faber driving in the Mavericks lone score.
Rohman also caught four passes from Faber for 24 yards, respectively.
MCW plays this Friday with a home contest against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop starting at 7 p.m.
North Union 28, GTRA 52
RUTHVEN – The North Union High School football team fell to GTRA 52-28 last Friday night, falling to 2-2 on the season.
The Warriors tallied 220 yards on the ground, averaging nearly five yards per attempt on the night. Draven Keeler picked up 161 yards and two touchdowns. Carson Crouch added 65 of his own on seven carries and one touchdown.
North Union continues their season on Friday, October 3 with a home contest against Bishop Garrigan.
