Area roundup: MCW wins in five over Cathedral

TRIMONT – Martin County West High School volleyball defeated New Ulm Cathedral, 25-14, 19-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-7, on Tuesday night at the Trimont gymnasium.
Emily Schettler powered the Mavericks with a team-high 21 assists while also collecting five digs.
Maddie Carlson led MCW with 15 kills of her own, along with 22 digs and one block in the process.
Rowan Faber had a team-high 24 digs on the night while tallying an ace.
The Mavericks continue their season on Thursday with a road matchup against St. Clair.
Pipestone Area 3,
Fairmont 2
PIPESTONE – Fairmont High School volleyball fell to Pipestone Area High School on Tuesday night, 15-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-27, 13-15.
Brylee Miller led the team in both kills and digs with 12 and 20, respectively.
Leslie Zarling posted 26 set assists to go along with 10 digs.
Jadyn Montgomery recorded three ace blocks and 11 kills.
Makayla Lowry went 20/22 serving with one ace.
The Cardinals continue their year next Tuesday with a home matchup against St. James Area High School at 7:15 p.m.

St. James 7, Fairmont 0
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont High School girls tennis team dropped to Saint James, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
Keyana Haler started things off for the Saints with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Emelia Klanderud.
Elizabeth Shores kept things going for St. James, beating Alison Slama 6-1, 6-4.
Ellie Romsdahl topped Ella Wubbena in the third singles match of the afternoon with a 6-1, 7-5 victory.
Claire Carlson completed the sweep over the Cardinals, besting Carly Gustafson 6-2, 6-1.
The Saints remained hot in all three doubles contests.
Ellie Anderson and Alivia Romsdahl bested Fairmont’s Katherine Zelaya and Madisyn Peyman in a 6-1, 6-4 win.
Valeria Aguilar and Ruby Ciske didn’t allow a single game over Belinda Lutterman and Cadleigh
Jobe during their 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Finally, Maren Bluedorn and Julia Westman defeated Addison Toothaker and Ada Edmundson 6-3, 6-3.
The Cardinals are back in action next Tuesday with a home match against Luverne starting at 4:30 p.m.
