Miller’s two-way skill set earns POTY honors

Brylee Miller, Jr, P/SS Fairmont

Taking home the 2025 Fairmont Sentinel All-Area Player of the Year is Fairmont pitcher and shortstop Brylee Miller. The Fairmont dual threat made waves on both sides of the ball during her 2025 campaign. Leading the Cardinals inside the circle, Miller posted a 2.42 ERA with 102 strikeouts. Her 104 innings pitched led the team as she held opposing batters to a .232 average at the plate. Offensively, Miller racked up a team-leading 31 RBIs while hitting at a clip of .452. Miller ended the year on the All-Conference and All-Section teams, guiding the Cardinals to a 15-9 record.

Gwyn Schultz, Fr, 1B/OF Fairmont

Another Cardinal, Schultz joined Miller in being one of the more impactful weapons on offense. Notching a .420 batting average, Schultz had seven doubles, eight triples, and three home runs in her 2025 season. This was enough to earn All-Conference and All-Section honors, respectively.

Ainsley Ulrich, So, P/OF North Union

A marquee pitcher in the area, Ulrich found herself as one of the more prolific arms in Iowa’s Class A. The sophomore ended the year with 158 innings pitched, recording a 2.48 ERA, and tallying 210 strikeouts. On offense, Ulrich was just as impactful. The Warrior posted a .427 batting average to finish the season, collecting 10 doubles and 33 RBIs in the process.

Emily Anderson, Sr, SS Martin County West

Anderson completed her fifth year on varsity, collecting First Team All-State, All-Section, and All-Conference awards. These nominations didn’t come without a successful season for the Mavericks. She led the team with a .472 batting average, notching 27 RBIs and five extra-base hits. Anderson will continue her athletic career playing basketball at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

Maddie Carlson, So, P Martin County West

Staying with the Mavericks, Carlson became one of the more dominant threats in the circle in her class. She finished her season with 175 strikeouts on 141 innings pitched, posting a 2.18 ERA while recording seven shutouts. At the plate, Carlson thrived for the Mavericks. Hitting .385 on the season, Carlson was tied for a team best in triples and RBIs with four and 32, respectively. She ended the year receiving Valley Conference Player of the Year, All-Conference, and All-Section awards.

Shallie Walders, So, C North Union

Walders leaped both on and off the field for North Union head coach Kim Price this season, growing as both a player and a leader for the Warriors. Offensively, Walders hit a mark of .422 at the plate, tallying 11 doubles and 21 RBIS. Behind the plate, Walders made her presence known. She finished the year throwing out six runners and posting a fielding percentage of .988.

Courtney Anderson, Jr, 3B Martin County West

Anderson led the Mavericks in a multitude of offensive categories following the 2025 campaign. Batting .419 from the plate, third best on the roster, Anderson tallied four triples, three home runs, and 32 RBIs, all of which were tied for or best on the team. She finished the season with All-Section and All-Conference honors.

Hannah Rosenberg, Sr, CF Martin County West

Noted as one of the best pure hitters Martin County West had in 2025, Rosenberg became a struggle for all pitchers facing her this past season. The leadoff hitter for the Mavericks, Rosenberg slashed .467 from the plate with a team-leading 16 stolen bases. Her 43 hits were tied for the best on the roster. Rosenberg received All-State honorable mentions along with All-Conference and All-Section selections. She will continue her softball career at California State University.

Olivia Price, Jr, SS

North Union

Price was a weapon for North Union in 2025, both offensively and defensively. At the plate, Price .354 with 32 singles and 20 RBIs. In the field, however, Price’s presence at shortstop helped power the Warrior defense. Price ended the season with a .961 fielding percentage, accumulating just three errors in that span.
