Area Roundup: Warriors Baseball secures upset victory

NORTH UNION 6, GHV 5
GARNER – The North Union Warriors secured their sixth victory of the year with an upset over 11-win Top of Iowa Conference opponent Garner-Hayfield-Ventura 6-5.
North Union and GHV traded blows in the second, with GHV leading 5-2. North Union then chipped away at the lead with one run in the third, before taking over with three runs in the fourth to make it 6-5. GHV was unable to mount a comeback, as the defense and pitching left both teams scoreless in the final three innings.
Cole Nicoson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Max Merrill was 2 for 4 with one RBI and one run, while Brennan Bollinger went 1 for 4 with one RBI.
In 4.1 innings of work, Wiley Stevens allowed just two hits and had no walks.
The Warriors (6-11), have their next game Friday versus Bishop Garrigan at 7:30 p.m. in Bancroft Memorial Park.

GARNER – The North Union Warriors defeated Garner-Hayfield-Ventura 10-2 in a Top of Iowa Conference matchup.
North Union were ready from the get-go, hammering home four runs in the first and two in the second. GHV would rally with two runs in the bottom of the second, but North Union put the nail in the coffin with four runs in the fourth to make it 10-2. Combined defense and pitching would take over for both teams in the final three innings.
Aslynn Sobolik went 1 for 3 with three RBIs and one run. Shallie Walders went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs, while Olivia Price went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs.
Ainsley Ulrich had three strikeouts and only three hits allowed in a complete game victory.
The Warriors (14-5) have their next game Thursday versus Central Springs at 6 p.m. on the Central Springs High School Softball Field.
