Martins hold off Pirates

WINDOM – The Fairmont Martins secured a 5-2 victory over the Windom Pirates Wednesday in an amateur baseball game.

Fairmont got out for a four-run lead in the top of the second, with Windom firing back right away to make it 4-2 after the second. Windom could not get another run going, and Fairmont tacked on an extra run in the sixth to make it 5-2.

Jacob Crissinger, Lincoln Becker, Spencer Chirpich, and Arnaldo Malave each had one RBI. Becker went 3 for 4 with two runs, Chirpich went 2 for 4 with one run, Crissinger went 1 for 4 with one run, and Arnaldo went 2 for 4.

Chirpich contributed eight innings on the mound. He had four strikeouts, one earned run, and seven hits allowed. Closing out the game, Nate Soelter got two strikeouts.

The Martins (3-1) have their next game Friday at Truman High School against the Fox Lake Foxes at 7:30 p.m.
