Fairmont cleans up at 2AA meet

ST. PETER – Several Fairmont Cardinals advanced from the Section 2AA Track and Field Championships Friday at Gustavus Adolphus College.

Those who qualified for state either finished top two in their events or met the qualifying standard set for the 2025 season.

BOYS STATE QUALIFIERS

Jeremiah Lebbi finished second in the 100 with a 11.06, improving on his prelim time from Wednesday when he ran an 11.45.

Carter Hanson, Jaydon Putney, Brier Lenort, and Caleb Chambers took sixth in the 4×400 relay with a 3:28.62.

Hanson, Putney, Lenort, and Jordan Thompson finished third in the 4×800 relay with a 8:08.70.

Tytan Tumbleson tied with four other jumpers to finish fourth in the high jump with a 6-foot, 1-inch jump.

Oliver Tordsen and Hank Artz took first and third in the discus, respectively, with 187-foot, 4-inch and 167-foot, 2-inch throws.

Nelson Remington took first in the wheelchair 1,600 with a PR time of 4:19.61. He also had a first-place personal best in the wheelchair 400 (59.89) and was first with a PR in the wheelchair 200 (30.5). In field action, Remington had a first-place, PR throw of 35 feet, 5 inches in the wheelchair discus.

GIRLS STATE QUALIFIERS

Harper Artz took fourth in the 400 with a 58.69.

Macy Hanson, who won the 3,200 finals on Wednesday to advance to state, finished second in the 1,600 on Friday with a time of 5:07.56 to qualify for another state event.

Nathalieh Johnson, Addison Toothaker, Mollie Leiding, and Artz finished third in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:45.42.

Toothaker, Artz, Hanson, and Madi Thompson took fourth in the 4×400 relay with a 4:03.69.

Ellie Perkins took second in the pole vault with a 10-foot, 6-inch jump.

All the advancing athletes from Wednesday and Friday will compete in the Class AA Prelims Wednesday, June 11, at St. Michael-Albertville High School in St. Michael at 9 a.m. Those who advance from the prelims will compete at the same location at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 12.

EMMETSBURG 2

EMMETSBURG – The North Union Warriors beat Emmetsburg 19-2 in five innings in a nonconference game Wednesday.

The game started out competitively, with North Union leading 3-2 after the third inning. The fourth and fifth would see them take command, with five runs in the former and 11 runs in the latter.

Kyla Irmiter went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and one run. Shallie Walders went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and four runs. Aslynn Sobolik hit a home run, bringing in two RBIs and two runs on 1 for 4 at the plate. Brylie Deim went 1 for 4 with one RBI and four runs.

In a complete game, Ainsley Ulrich had nine strikeouts and gave up only one earned run and three hits.

The Warriors (2-0), have their next game June 3 at 7 p.m. against Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire at the Ruthven-Ayrshire Athletic Complex in Ruthven.
