Fairmont boys take 3rd at Big South Championship
ST. PETER — The Fairmont boys track and field team took third, while the girls team took fourth Thursday at the Big South Conference Championship at St. Peter High School.
Marshall won the boys side with 152.5 points, followed by Belle Plaine (127), Fairmont (104), Worthington (95), St. Peter (82), Waseca (66), Waseca (52), New Ulm (52) and Tri-City United (23.5).
St. Peter won the girls side of the meet with 165 points, followed by TCU (133.5), Marshall (107), Fairmont (104), Waseca (83), Belle Plaine (69), New Ulm (24.5) and Worthington (15).
The Fairmont boys had several top-five finishers on the day, starting with Jeremiah Lebbi, who took fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.37) and second in the 200 (23.12). Nelson Remington took first in the wheelchair 200 (32.02), first in the wheelchair 400 (1:03.67), first in the wheelchair 1,600 (4:49.05) and first in the wheelchair discus (32-09).
Also for the Fairmont boys, Carter Hanson took fourth in the 800 (2.04.52), Oliver Tordsen took second in the shot put (54-08) and first in the discus (188-02), Hank Artz took third in the shot put (50-01) and fourth in the discus (188-02) and Tytan Tumbleson took third in the high jump (5-11) and second in the long jump (19-07.25). The Fairmont boys 4×100-meter relay team of Jaron Schultz, Tavian Harvey, Caleb Chambers and Lebbi took second (44.35), while the boys 4×800 team of Hanson, Jordan Thompson, Jaydon Putney and Brier Lenort took second (8:19.62).
For the Fairmont girls, Mollie Leiding took fourth in the 100 (13.11), while Harper Artz took second in the 200 (26.89), Macy Hanson took first in the 3,200 (11:20.89) and Cadence Leiding took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.00).
Also for the Fairmont girls, Ellie Ortega took second in the shot put (36-3.5), Addison Folkerts took second in the discus (106-11), Ellie Ortega took third in the discus (106-11) and Ellie Perkins took second in the pole vault (10-07).
