WORTHINGTON – The Fairmont Cardinals won their nonconference game versus Worthington 8-2 Thursday.

Jensen Livesay led the Cardinals, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs, one run, and a home run in the third inning. Joseph Crissinger, Luke Haefner, and Vincent Schultz each went 1 for 2 with one RBI.

Mason Bicknase had three strikeouts and gave up only five hits in four innings of work. In relief, Haefner had two strikeouts and gave up no hits.

The Cardinals (17-2) play their final regular season game in Marshall Friday at 5 p.m. at Marshall Legion Field.

SLEEPY EYE ST. MARYS 18, GHEC/T/ML 8 (5 INNINGS)

SLEEPY EYE — The Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars ended their season with a loss in their sectional playoff game to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 18-8 in five innings.

Bryce Borkenhagen homered and drove in three runs for the Jaguars, while Catrer Langford was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Reagan Emmert took the loss in one-third of an inning.

FINISH SEASON

BUFFALO LAKE — The Fairmont boys golf team finished its season of golf Thursday during the first round of the Section 3AA Boys Golf Tournament at Oakdale Golf Club Thursday.

The top five teams from Thursday’s first round and the next 15 individual golfers not on those teams, including ties, advance to next Wednesday’s final round.

New London-Spicer shot a 297 for first, while New Ulm finished second with a 308. Also advancing to next Wednesday will be Morris Area-Chokio-Alberta (314), Marshall (317) and Minnewaska Area (323).

Fairmont took 15th with a 389.

A 84 was the score needed to be in the top 15. Taking first for Fairmont on Thursday was MacKlain Anderson, who carded a 92, while Harmon Schrunk shot a 93 and Jalin Jackson carded a 94. Also for Fairmont, Tyler Heckman turned in a 110, while Hudson McKean shot a 111 and Chase Haugen shot a 137.

WELLS – The Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin Mavericks and Granada Huntley East Chain-Truman-Martin Luther Jaguars finished 10th and 12th in the 2A South Subsection tournament Thursday.

For MCW/BO, Berent (Bear) Kosbab took second in the 100 with a time of 11.62 seconds and third in the 200 with a time of 22.84 seconds.

Lixon Forsberg, Josh Roben, Mason Menssen, and Kale Larson took third in the 4×200 with a time of 1:39.28.

Barret School finished fourth in the Shot Put with a 43-foot, 3.5-inch throw.

The section tournament is Saturday, May 31 at Mankato West high school

WELLS — The Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin Mavericks and Granada Huntley East Chain-Truman-Martin Luther Jaguars finished 11th and 12th in the 2A South Subsection tournament Thursday.

For GHEC/T/ML, Londyn Bowers took first in the 100 and 200 with a time of 11.96 seconds and 26.74 seconds, respectively.

For MCW/BO, Ava Thate finished fourth in the 100 with a time of 13.46 seconds.

The section tournament is Saturday, May 31, at Mankato West high school.
