FAIRMONT 7, LUVERNE 0
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals closed out their regular season with a shut-out win over Luverne.
All four singles were won by Fairmont. Dominick Lund-May beat Kaleb Hemme 6-1, 6-1, Leonardo Fortin bested Caleb Kracht 6-0, 6-7, 10-3, Oliver Thedens won over Austin Sandbulte 6-0, 6-0, and Simone Castro emerged victorious against Eli Henrichs 6-1, 6-0.
The three doubles matches were won by default, as Luverne did not have enough players to contest.
The Cardinals (7-9) will have their next game Wednesday, in a first round team section match with opponent, time, and place to be determined.
GIRLS GOLF
MCW girls take 6th on final day of Tomahawk-Valley tourney
SANBORN — The Martin County West and the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther girls golf teams took sixth and eighth, respectively, during the final leg of the Tomahawk-Valley Conference Girls Golf Tournament on Monday at the Farmer’s Golf & Health Club in Sanborn.
The Sleepy Eye United girls won Monday’s meet with a 398, which also helped them finish first for the third leg in a row and win the conference title with 40 points. Monday’s points were worth double in the tournament.
The Springfield girls finished second on Monday with a 420, followed by Alden-Conger (421), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (461), Madelia (461), Martin County West (470), Cedar Mountain (472), Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (479) and Wabasso (500). New Ulm Cathedral and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart were incomplete.
Finishing the tournament second behind SEU was Springfield with 36 points, while Alden-Conger took third (32), Madelia took fourth (24), MCW and GFW tied for fifth (20), Cedar Mountain took seventh (17) and GHEC/T/ML took eighth (14). Cathedral took ninth (8), Wabasso took 10th (7) and BLHS was incomplete.
SEU’s Sam Price was the girls medalist on Monday with an 87 and also finished as the conference individual champion.
MCW was led by Morgan McCorkell, who shot a 108 to tie for 12th on Monday, while teammate Brenna Heifner shot a 114 to tie for 18th. GHEC/T/ML was led by Charlotte Berhow, who shot a 109 for 14th, while Elsa Thompson shot a 118 to tie for 25th Monday.

MORTON – The Fairmont Cardinals and Blue Earth Area Buccaneers placed second and third in the Girls Big South Conference Championship against 11 other teams Monday.
Leading the way for Fairmont was Leslie Zarling, who placed third individually with an 89. Carly Gustafson finished eighth with a 98, while Katherine Zelaya got 15th with a 104.
The Cardinals will have their next matchup at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 21 at the Oakdale Golf Club versus a to be determined opponent.

BELMOND – The North Union Warriors finished seventh in an eighth-way matchup at Belmond Country Club Monday
Alexis Cummins was the highest individual finisher for North Union, tying for seventh with a 94.
The Warriors are up against eight other teams during first round regionals Friday at 12 p.m. in the Rolling Hills Country Club.
BOYS GOLF
GHEC/T/ML takes third in third leg of conference tourney
ST. JAMES — Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther finished third while Martin County West was incomplete in the third and final leg of the Tomahawk-Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament.
Sleepy Eye United won the meet with a score of 326, followed by Alden-Conger (351), GHEC/T/ML (360), Cedar Mountain (363), Springfield (364), New Ulm Cathedral (379), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, Madelia (385) and Wabasso (427).
Landon Zimmer led the Jaguars, shooting a 78 to place third. Gavin Kester (83) placed sixth, while Jevin Garry (96) took 30th. Logan Zimmer (103) placed 41st and Tavin Janssen (105) placed 42nd.
For MCW, Kale Larson scored an 83 to tie for sixth, while Knox Larson (89) placed 17th. Carson Scheff (99) took 36th, while Kayden Gidden (100) placed 39th.
For the overall tournament, New Ulm Cathedral’s Owen Strei finished with 120 points, followed by SEU’s Blaine Arneson (110), Zimmer (107.5), SEU’s Nolan Kucera (99),Kester (97), Cedar Mountain’s Blake Schueller (95), Alden-Conger’s Ryan Hintz (92), SEU’s Anders Coulson (87), SEU’s Isaac Christensen (78.5) and Kale Larson (76.5).
SEU won all three legs of the tournament, finishing with 40 points. GHEC/T/ML came in second (33), followed by Alden-Conger (29.5), Springfield (26), Cathedral (25), Cedar Mountain (25.5), MCW (15), GFW (12, Madelia (11) and Wabasso.

LE SUEUR – The Fairmont Cardinals lost a Ryder Cup style match versus Mankato East during an invitational Friday
The format consists of three segments of six holes. The first six holes each player on each team hits from the same position, and the best shot is chosen each time for the given team. The next six holes have team members alternating in striking the same ball. The last six has every player on each team use their own ball, with the best score from each team going on.
While a unique experience for the team, it did not lead to any wins.
The Cardinal’s next game is the Big South Championship Tuesday at 10 a.m. in a 14-team invitational at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton.

SLEEPY EYE – The Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (GHEC-T-ML) Jaguars lost to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Monday after 4 ½ innings.
Bowen Sill and Carson Hastad went 0 for 2 and 1 for 2, respectively, with one RBI each. Hastad and Taplan gave up five and four earned runs, respectively. Hastad had one strikeout, while Taplan only gave up four hits.
The Jaguars (4-11) have their next game Tuesday against Madelia in Truman at 6:30 p.m.

SLEEPY EYE – The Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin (MCW/B-O) Mavericks took a close third place in their track meet Monday.
Lixon Forsberg finished first in the 100 meters with a 12:15, while Mason Menssen finished fifth with a 12.40
Berent (Bear) Kosbab got first in the 200 meters with a 22.61.
Cooper Roben and Conrad Gwin took fourth and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a 1:00.13 and 1:04.85 respectively.
Forsberg, Kosbab, Kale Larson, and Lucas Larson finished first in the 4×100 relay with a 45.76. With Josh Roben instead of Kosbab, they finished first in the 4×200 relay with a 1:38.
Roben, Kosbab, Menssen, and Lucas Larson took second in the 4×400 relay with a 3:44.36
Hayden O’Connor, Brody Cook, Elliot Reynolds, and Dominic Dietz grabbed third in the 4×800 relay with a 11:27.48.
Barret School got first in the shot put with a 40-foot, 11.5-inch throw, while Hank Olson got fourth with a 38-foot, 11-inch throw.
Scholl and Olson finished third and fourth in the discus with a 112-foot, 3-inch and 106-foot, 11-inch throw, respectively.
Kale and Lucas Larson finished first and tied for second in the high jump with 5-foot, 4-inch and 5-foot, 2-inch jumps, respectively.
Menssen nabbed fifth in the long jump with a 16-foot, 4.75-inch jump.
Forsberg got first in the triple jump with a 36-foot, 6-inch jump.

Evelynn Christenson got third in the 1,600 meters with a 6:01.22.
Avery Sanders, Tayavia Maokhamphio, Reese Peters, and Thea Larson finished fifth in the 4×100 relay with a 57.16.
