Area roundup: Multiple Cardinals top podiums in track and field

PREP TRACK AND FIELD

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinals boys and girls teams finished third amongst 10 teams at home Tuesday.

In the boys events, Fairmont’s Jeremiah Lebbi finished first in the 100-meter dash with time of 11.28 seconds and fifth in the 200 with a time of 23.27 seconds.

Carter Hanson placed second in the 800 (2:02.58) and fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:35.72.

Cooper Gudahl was eighth in the 3,200 with a 10:30.11.

Jaron Schutz finished seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a 43.64.

The relay team finished second in the 4×100 with a 44.78, third in the 4×200 with 1:34.13, fifth in the 4×400 with a 3:34.88, and third in the 4×800 with a 8:35.19.

Hank Artz and Oliver Tordsen finished second and third in the shot put with 53 feet 9.5 inches and 51 feet 3 inches respectively. Tordsen and Artz finished first and fourth in the discus with 181-feet, 1-inch for Tordsen and 143 feet for Artz, respectively.

Tytan Tumbleson got second in the high jump with a 6-foot, 4-inch jump, fifth in the long jump with a 19-foot, 11-inch jump, andf fifth in the triple jump with a 39-foot, 10.25-inch jump.

Jase Meade tied for fifth in the pole vault with an 11-foot, 6-inch vault.

In the girls events, Fairmont’s Mollie Leiding finished sixth in the 100 meters with a 13.24.

Harper Artz finished secont in the 200 with a 26.67 and second in the 400 with a 1:00.41.

Macy Hanson finished third in the 1,600 with a 5:15.28 and first in the 3,200 with a 11:29.81.

Cadence Leiding finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a 16.78 and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a 50.41.

The relay team finished seventh in the 4×100 with a 52.84, third in the 4×200 with a 1:48.11, fifth in the 4×400 with a 4:15.44, and ninth in the 4×800 relay with a 10:50.72.

Ellie Ortega finished first in the shot put with a 38-feet, 3-inch throw and second in the discus with a 105-foot, 6-inch throw.

Ellie Perkins finished first in the pole vault with a 10-foot, 6-inch vault.

Fairmont’s next track meet will be in Worthington Tuesday, May 13 at 4 p.m. in a 14-way competition.

BOYS GOLF

NORTH UNION 158, GARNER HAYFIELD VENTURA 161, WEST HANCOCK 176

BANCROFT — The North Union Warriors bested Garner Hayfield Ventura and West Hancock 158-161-176 in a Top of Iowa Conference West Division matchup Tuesday.

Drew Henderson led the way individually, placing first with a 32. Hudson Tirevold tied for fourth individually with a 40.

North Union will have its next matchup Monday May 12 at 10 a.m. in a nine-way competition at Spring Valley Golf Course in Livermore.

GIRLS GOLF

NORTH UNION 211, WEST HANCOCK 272

ARMSTRONG — The North Union Warriors beat West Hancock 211-272 in a Top of Iowa Conference West Division matchup Tuesday.

Aaliyah Jones finished first individually with a 45. Alexis Cummins and Hannah Nielson tied for third individually with 53s.

North Union will have its next matchup Monday, May 12, at 10 a.m. in a nine-way competition at Belmond Country Club.

PREP SOFTBALL

MARTIN COUNTY WEST 19, SLEEPY EYE ST MARY’S 0

WELCOME — The Martin County West Mavericks beat Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 19-0 in 4 innings Tuesday.

Emily Anderson led the way, going 3 for 3 with five RBIs and four runs scored. Bailey Larson went 3 for 4 with four RBI, while Maddie Carlson went 3 for 3 with three RBI.

In three innings of work, Maddie Carlson gave up one hit and had one strikeout.

Martin County West (12-2) has its next game Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Nicollet.

PREP BASEBALL

FAIRMONT 10, BEA 0 (5 innings)

FAIRMONT — Fairmont shut out Blue Earth Area 10-0 in five innings of a Big South Conference baseball game on Tuesday.

The game ended in the fifth due to the 10-run lead rule. The Cardinals did not allow a BEA hit in the game.

Merritt Pomerenke was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI to lead Fairmont, while Joseph Hackett was 1 for 3 with three RBIs.

Preston Geerdes got the win on the mound in four innings, striking out four and walking four with no hits allowed. Brayden Williamson pitched the fifth inning and walked one.

Fairmont (11-1, 9-0) is at Pipestone Area for a Friday doubleheader.
