SEARLES – The Martin County West Mavericks were defeated by Madelia 11-1 Thursday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division baseball game.
Maddex Faber went 2 for 2 with an RBI to lead the Mavericks, while Jacob Wilmes added a double.
MCW pitcher Lucas Larson struck out two batters in 4 â…” innings and allowed six runs.
The Mavericks are now 1-2 and head to Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
BOYS TENNIS
SWC 7, FAIRMONT 0
EDGERTON – The Fairmont Cardinals spring tennis team was swept by Southwest Minnesota Christian 7-0 in a Big South Conference tennis match Thursday night.
In the No. 1 singles match, Anthony Stegge fell to Mateo Schneibel 6-2, 6-2, while Tyler Slama was defeated by Brock Walmer 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles match. Leonardo Fortin lost his No. 3 singles match against Davis Wurst 6-1, 6-0, while Zachary Ashland fell to Isaac Wilson in the No. 4 doubles match 6-0, 6-0.
Dominick Lund-May and Simone Castro lost their No. 1 doubles match against Cam Thomas and Evan Johnson 6-3, 6-3, while Wylee Frederiksen and Oliver Thedens fell to London Johnson and Wade Ganske in the No. 2 doubles match 6-2, 6-2. Lilly Ortega and Jonah Vetter fell to Drew Denton and Brady Uglum 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 doubles match.
Now 1-1, the Cardinals head to St. James for a 9 a.m. tournament Saturday.

CLEVELAND 3, MCW 2
CLEVELAND – The Martin County West Mavericks fell to Cleveland 3-2 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division game Thursday night.
Emily Schettler led the Mavericks, going 1 for 2 with an RBI, while Bailey Larson went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Pitcher Maddie Carlson only allowed three runs while striking out 10.
The Mavericks, now 2-1, will play Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

ARMSTRONG – The North Union Warriors secured victory over Bishop Garrigan and North Iowa 174-193-213 in a Top of Iowa golf meet on Thursday.
Drew Henderson led the Warriors with a 37, good enough for first. Carter Martens took third with a 44, while Cole Nicoson took fourth with a 46.
North Union’s next round is at 4:15 on Monday at Garner Golf and Country Club.

ST. JAMES – The Martin County West Mavericks placed third with a score of 196 in a golf meet at the St. James golf course Thursday, Minnesota Valley Lutheran claimed the victory 182-195-196-209.
Leading the Mavericks was Knox Larson, who shot a 42 for second place, while Kale Larson shot a 43 to take fourth place. Carson Scheff shot a 52 for 13th place, while Isaak Engstrom and Josua Roben shot a 59 tying for 19th.
The Mavericks next round is at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Fox Lake Golf Course.

BISHOP GARRIGAN 203, NORTH UNION 243
ARMSTRONG – The North Union Warriors girls golf team fell to Bishop Garrigan 203-243 Thursday in a Top of Iowa Golf meet.
Alexis Cummins shot a 53, while Aliyah Jones shot a 59. Lexi Anderson shot a 64, while Hannah Nielsen shot a 67.
North Union’s next round is at 4:15 on Monday at Garner Golf and Country Club.

ST. JAMES – The Martin County West Mavericks placed third with a score of 270 in a girls golf meet at the St. James golf course Thursday, Minnesota Valley Lutheran claimed the victory 247-250-270-301.
Leading the Mavericks was Brenna Heifner, who shot a 62 for seventh place, while Ariel Freeman and Morgan McCorkell both shot a 65 to tie for 10th. Aaliyah Bolstad shot a 78 for 17th place.
The Mavericks take on New Ulm Cathedral at 4:15 p.m. at Fox Lake Golf Course Friday.
