MAGIC 134.55, JCC 129.15
FAIRMONT - The Martin County Area Magic secured a victory in their season opener over Jackson County Central 134.55-129.15 in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet.
"We had a well-deserved win at our meet tonight," said MCA Magic head coach Annie Post. "The girls absolutely exceeded expectations and brought their A-game. It was fun to see the girls bring the energy from one event to the other."
The meet's top gymnast was Lillie Schultz with an all-around score of 35.8, scoring a 9.2 on the vault, an 8.675 in the uneven bars event and an 8.8 on the balance beam before closing out the night with a 9.125 in the floor exercise portion of the meet.
The Magic were also led by Jadyn Montgomery, who had an all-around score of 34.625. She also took second in the vault (8.8), second in bars (8.525), third on beam (8.35) and second on floor (8.95). Nola Thedens took third in vault (8.75), and Adrianna Knalfa secured third in bars (7.975)
The Magic's next meet is at 6 p.m. on Tuesday against Marshall at Marshall Middle School.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
MCW 57, MANKATO LOYOLA 42
MANKATO - The Martin County West Mavericks defeated Mankato Loyola in a Tomahawk Valley Conference, Valley Division girls basketball game Thursday night 57-42.
Leading the Mavericks was Emily Anderson with 20 points, four assists, and four steals, while Maddie Carlson put up 13 points and 11 rebounds. Courtney Anderson had 9 points, four assists, and four steals.
The Mavericks’ next game is Tuesday, Dec. 10 against Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther at 7 p.m..
GHEC 59, NICOLLET 48
TRUMAN -- Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther defeated Nicollet 59-48 on Thursday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division girls basketball game.
GHEC/T/ML was led by Londyn Bowers, who had a game-best 30 points, while Keira Benck added 13 points.
Nicollet was led by Leah Bode's 18 points, while Savannah Klockziem had 13 points and Zoei Rengstorf had 8 points.
GHEC/T/ML's next game is at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial at 7 p.m. Friday

FAIRMONT 3, WASECA 1
WASECA - The Fairmont Cardinals girls hockey team defeated Waseca 3-1 in a Big Conference hockey game Thursday night securing a 3-1 victory outshooting their opponent 59-19.
Leading the Cardinals was Haylyn Haycraft with two goals and Alexis Haycraft with a goal on the night, while Mariel Parish and Kynlee Beemer both had an assist. Goalkeeper Alexis Sundeen saved 18 out of 19 shots putting up a .947 save percentage.
The Cardinals’ next game is Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Worthington.
BOYS BASKETBALL

MAVERICKS 69, JAGUARS 67
TRIMONT- The Martin County West Mavericks held off the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars in a 69-67 victory Tuesday night in a nonconference basketball game.
Leading the Mavericks was Josh Roben with 22 points, Jacob Wilmes with 18 points, and Kale Larson with 14 points.
The scoring leaders for the Jaguars were Bryce Borkenhagen who put up a career-high 21 points, Eli Jensen 17 points, Carson Hastad 13 points, and Brody Grathwohl with 12 points.
