Hanson secures section title and is headed to State

Section 2AA Championships

MANKATO – The Fairmont boys and girls cross-country teams took part in the Section 2AA Cross-Country Championships and Fairmont’s Macy Hanson secured the championship slot, propelling her to a state tournament appearance.

The Fairmont boys finished seventh overall, while the girls were ninth overall.

Section 2AA champion Macy Hanson led the Fairmont girls, taking the title with a time of 17:52.2 to lock in her fifth win and punch her ticket to the State Cross-Country Meet. With her was Carys Gudhal, who landed in 55th place running a 22:48.3, and Delaney Klug, who posted a time of 22:53.2 to place 58th. Brooklyn Stone secured the 68th position, running a 24:21.1, while Kendra Blomster ran a 24:28.1, landing her in 69th. Reese Fenske took 73rd with a time of 25:25.2, and Addison Lintleman ran a 26:03.1 to take 77th.

Leading the boys was Cooper Gudhal, running a 17:26.1 to land in 29th, and Jaydon Putney, who took 35th with a time of 17:53.9. Andrew Haugen ran an 18:06.4 to take 39th, while Devin Hanson took 18:17.3 and placed 43rd. Braydon Lindsay took 51st (19:09.5) and Leon Yang ran a 21:01.4 to take 71st. Michael Hamlet placed 77th (22:23.1) to round out the last of the Fairmont squad.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

MAYER LUTHERAN 3, GHEC/T/ML 0

ST. PETER – The Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars fell to Mayer Lutheran in the Section 2A quarterfinal round 25-8, 25-15, 25-10 Thursday night.

Leading the Jaguars was Londyn Bowers with five kills, six digs, and a block while going 5 for 6 serving with one ace. Madisen Lewis put up three kills and a block, while Lindsey Diegnau added five assists and went 9 for 10 serving. Keira Benck added four assists, five digs and Norah Chase added a block on the night.

CLEVELAND 3, MCW 0

NEW ULM – Cleveland swept the Martin County West Mavericks in the Section 2A quarterfinal by a score of 25-19, 25-17, 25-18 Thursday night at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School.
