Fairmont girls tennis earns 2nd win in 3 days
GIRLS TENNIS
FAIRMONT 5, PIPESTONE 2
PIPESTONE – Fairmont defeated Pipestone 5-2 in a Big South Conference girls tennis match Monday.
Emelia Klanderud secured the No. 1 singles match over Jasmine Boeke 6-3, 7-5, while Allison Slama won her No. 2 singles match against Laura Minet 6-0, 6-1. Madisyn Peyman won her No. 3 singles match against Olyvia Weber 6-2, 6-1, while Carly Gustafson won her No. 4 singles match against Iva Witte 6-1, 6-1.
Fairmont’s Claire Brockman and Sam Thatcher lost their No.1 doubles match against Alicia Haack and Vivian Brockberg 6-3, 6-0, while Cailwyn Jobe and Emily Wheeler lost their No. 2 doubles match against Addison Draper and Kate Hanson 6-3, 6-1. Madysen Tonne and Katherine Zelaya won their No. 3 doubles match against Aubrey Brockberg and Sophia Baatz 7-5, 7-5.
The Fairmont girls tennis team’s next match is Tuesday at Belle Plaine.

FAIRMONT 6, ALBERT LEA 1
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont girls tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Albert Lea in a conference tennis match on Saturday in Fairmont.
Allison Slama won her No. 1 singles match against Bree Weilage 6-3, 6-2, While Ella Wubbena took her No. 2 singles match against Kallie Studier 6-1, 6-2. Carly Gustafson won her No. 3 singles match against Gaby Tufte 6-2, 6-4, while Katherine Zelaya won her No. 4 singles match 7-2, 4-6, 10-5.
Madisyn Peyman and Claire Brockmann won their No. 1 doubles match against Emery Nelson and Ellery Schewe 6-2, 6-4, while Cailwyn Jobe and Madysen Tonne lost their No. 2 doubles match against Brooke Tufte and Anna Shaw 6-4, 6-2. Emily Wheeler and Samantha Thatcher won their No. 3 singles match against Paige Rasmussen and Lauren Schumacher 6-1, 6-4.
ST. JAMES 6, BEA 1
ST. JAMES – Blue Earth Area played St. James in a conference girls tennis match Monday, losing by a score of 6-1.
Grace Hanson lost her No. 1 singles match against Keyana Haler 6-2, 6-4, while Addison Prescher lost her No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1. Mckinley Hanson lost her No. 3 singles match against Ellie Romsdahl 6-3, 6-2, while Katelyn Storbeck lost her No. 4 singles Match to Dani Trapero 6-1, 6-0.
Erin Prescher and Carol Schrader lost their No. 1 doubles match against Ellie Anderson and Alivia Romsdahl 6-4, 6-2, while Abbey Lorenz and Abigail Greff lost their No. 2 doubles match against Valeria Aguilar and Ruby Ciske 6-0, 6-0. Brooklyn Rosenau and Grace Schavey won their No. 3 doubles match against Maren Bluedorn and Julia Westman 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.
The BEA girls tennis team’s next match is Tuesday against Tri-City United at Schroeder Courts in Fairmont.
GIRLS SOCCER
FAIRMONT 3, WASECA 3
WASECA – The Fairmont girls soccer team played Waseca in a conference soccer game Monday night that ultimately resulted in a tie.
Fairmont goalkeeper Mary Bennett held Waseca to three goals with 15 saves. Grace Kotewa set up Abbie Simpson for Fairmont’s first goal of the game. Kennedy Becker knocked in the second goal off of a Mataya Weber assist, while Cadence Leiding set up Madi Pluim for Fairmont’s third and final goal of the game.
The Fairmont girls soccer team’s next game is Tuesday at home against Worthington.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
FAIRMONT 3, SPIRIT LAKE 1
SPIRIT LAKE – The Fairmont girls volleyball team defeated Spirit Lake in a nonconference volleyball game Monday by a score of 18-25, 25-12, 28-26, 25-22.
Leading Fairmont was Brylee Miller with 12 kills and five blocks, while Ellie Ortega added seven kills and six digs and Makayla Lowry had two kills, 19 digs and one solo block. Gabby Leiding had 16 digs also for Fairmont, while Meredith Nemmers had four kills and Leslie Zarling had 26 set assists and 16 digs.
Fairmont (2-8) is at New Ulm on Tuesday.

Friday
FAIRMONT 41, BELLE PLAINE 13
BELLE PLAINE – Fairmont flew by Belle Plaine in a South District football game by a score of 41-13 on Friday.
Leading the team for the Cardinals was running back Elijah Johnson, who had 21 carries for 132 yards, while receiver Nolan Schultze had two carries for 44 yards and a TD and two catches for 100 yards and a score. Quarterback Joe Long had five carries for 26 yards while completing 10 of 13 passes for 158 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
On defense, Hank Artz snagged one interception for a pick-6.
Fairmont got the scoring going on a 45-yard TD run by Schultze with 7:51 left in the first quarter before Long had a 10-yard TD run with 1:29 left in the first quarter for a two-TD lead.
Long completed a 58-yard TD pass to Schultze with 8:57 left in the half, while Artz had his pick-6 go 15 yards with less than two minutes before the half for a 27-0 Fairmont lead.
After Belle Plaine got its first touchdown of the game early in the third, Johnson had back-to-back TD runs in the third for a 41-6 lead. Belle Plaine got its final touchdown midway through the fourth quarter for the final score.
The Cardinals’ next game is Saturday against Albert Lea in Fairmont.
