Fairmont falls 6-1 to St. Peter

FAIRMONT- The Fairmont girls tennis team fell to St. James 6-1 in a Big South Conference girls tennis match Tuesday.

“We knew going into the matchup that St. Peter was a solid team,” Fairmont head coach Laura Olsen said. “We continue to use these more challenging matches to push ourselves to learn and to grow. We saw a lot of competitive play, with some great points being played at every level.”

Emelia Klanderud lost her No. 1 singles Match against Annika Southworth 0-6, 1-6, while Allison Slama won her No. 2 singles match against Brielle Romaiewicz 6-1, 6-0. Madisyn Peyman lost her No. 3 singles match against Morgaux Letts 1-6, 3-6, while Ella Wubbena dropped her No. 4 singles match against Natalie Salfer 4-6, 2-6.

“Allison Slama earned a big win at No. 2 singles,” Olsen said. “Ella Wubbena fought hard against a very solid No. 4 singles player [Salfer].”

Claire Brockman and Cailwyn Jobe lost their No. 1 doubles match against Kylie Southworth and Nora Whipps 2-6, 0-6, while Ivy Schomberg and Sam Thatcher dropped their No. 2 doubles match against Ella Dirks and Kady Thoms 0-6, 2-6. Carly Gustafson and Katherine Zelaya dropped their No. 3 doubles match against Sada Harmes and Leah Boomgaarden 1-6, 0-6.

The Fairmont girls tennis team’s next match is at 4:30 p.m. at Waseca Thursday.
