FAIRMONT – Tennis has become a familial affair for Madisyn Peyman heading into her junior year as one of the captains of the Fairmont girls tennis team.

Peyman is hoping to continue the winning ways of her predecessor all while trying to build a legacy of her own.

“I think it can be hard sometimes, but I also just think that we are different people and, you know, I know I work hard and I go out and play with her and I’m proud of everything my sister was able to do,” Peyman said. “I know that she is happy to watch me and likes to watch me and is proud to see how I’ve gotten better over the years. So, I just think that we both can be happy for each other and just be proud of what we each can accomplish separately.”

Taking over the title of captain from her sister, Abi, Peyman finished last season with a respectable record of 8-9 and is hoping to build upon the winning ways heading into her junior year. Though the new role on the team brings some pressure, Peyman is happy to be in her role with her fellow captains.

“Emelia [Klanderud], Madysin [Tonne], and I have all kind of had to step into leadership roles that our sisters have had previously,” Peyman said. “So, it’s been kind of different to go from being the young ones on the team to then kind of being the leaders. But it’s been nice to be able to step into that role and a good challenge and just a new different way to approach this year.”

Peyman’s effort off the court has proven to be effective. She has grown into a consistent performer in both singles and doubles. This versatility has made her a valuable member of the team and an asset that the team can rely on.

“We kind of flip back and forth between singles and doubles,” Fairmont girls tennis head coach Laura Olsen said. “It’s nice to have some players that you can work into the lineup in different spots. She’s one of those players that everyone wants to play doubles with because she’s a really solid doubles player. She’s got some great court awareness as well. … They’re all really good teammates, but she’s just fun to play with.”

Off the court Peyman enjoys her free time working at Dairy Freeze and spending time with friends and family to rest and allow herself to recover. That doesn’t stop her work ethic, however. Peyman makes sure that her workouts are in the schedule, making sure she stays healthy for the season.

“I like to go to the gym,” she said. “But I also definitely know that I need to be able to rest up. So, I like to hang out with my family and my friends. I like to go for walks, just getting light activity in just being able to stay in shape without too much intense activity.”

Peyman continues her season preparations hoping to make a solid run through the schedule and add to her tennis resume.
