BUFFALO LAKE — Fairmont senior Brynn Gustafson found herself in a playoff round Wednesday in the Section 3AA Golf Tournament at Oakdale Golf Club.
Despite turning in a strong 95 Wednesday to put her at a two-day score of 185, Brynn Gustafson was tied for ninth with Paynesville Area’s Peyton Roeske and Marshall’s Grace Rokeh for the fifth and final individual qualifying spot in this year’s Class AA state tourney. That ended up leading to a two-hole playoff round between the three, which Rokeh won to advance to the state tournament.
The top team overall after two days qualifies for the state tournament, along with the top five individual golfers not on that team. The Minnewaska Area girls team won the tournament to qualify for state with a two-day score of 674. Following Minnewaska Area was New London-Spicer (762), Redwood Valley (772), Marshall (791) and Fairmont (798).
Following Brynn Gustafson for the Fairmont girls were Katherine Zelaya (195, 22nd), Leslie Zarling (202, 27th) and Carly Gustafson (219, 37th). Zelaya shot a 96 on Wednesday, while Zarling carded a 101 and Carly Gustafson shot a 107.
The Fairmont boys didn’t make it as a team to Day 2 of the meet, but senior Mathew Cone and junior Harmon Schrunk did. Cone turned in 79 Wednesday for a two-day score of 156 and a tie for 11th, while Schrunk carded an 82 for a two-day total of 168 and a tie for 27th.
Marshall won the boys side of the tourney to advance to state with a two-day score of 600.
