Fairmont boys, girls win home golf meet

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont boys golf team eked out a 1-point win on Tuesday in a home triangular at Rose Lake Golf Club, finishing first with a 183.

The Jackson County Central boys finished second with a 184, while Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther took third (208).

The Fairmont Cardinals won the girls side of the triangular with a 210, finishing ahead of JCC (247) and T/GHEC/ML (Inc.).

The Fairmont boys were led by senior Matthew Cone, who finished as the medalist with a 39. JCC’s Luke Anderson was second (42), while Fairmont’s Harmon Schrunk tied for third with a 44. The Fairmont boys’ scorecard was completed by Tyler Heckman (49) and Macklain Anderson (51).

Fairmont senior Brynn Gustafson finished as the girls medalist with a 45, while freshman teammate Kahterin Zelaya tied for second with a 52. JCC’s Rachel Mohr tied for second with Zelaya, while Fairmont’s Leslie Zarling turned in a 54 for fourth. Fairmont’s Carly Gustafson and Lauren Zarling each shot a 59 to tie for sixth.

The Fairmont boys are at New Ulm on April 18, while the girls team is at St. Peter on April 16.

Fairmont girls take 2nd Saturday

WORTHINGTON — The Fairmont girls golf team took second out of nine teams at a Worthington girls golf invite on Saturday, turning in a 448.

Brynn Gustafson turned in an 18-hole final score of 97 to tie with Murray County Central’s Ava Johnson as the medalist. Katherin Zelaya shot a 114 also for Fairmont, while Leslie Zarling shot a 115 and Carly Gustafson finished the Fairmont girls’ scorecard with a 122.
